YAESU FT 897d Audio Modifications ?

Have you tried the Palomar SL41 yet?

No Sir. Had to look it up. It appears to be a nice noise cancelling mic. I don't use noise cancelling mics in the base station. They just aren't as loud and punchy sounding in that setting IMO. I do have to use a noise cancelling mic in my big truck due to diesel engine noise. However, I hear folks on the air that could benefit from a noise cancelling mic in their base station due to excessive amplifier cooling fan noise, haha.

What you can do with most rigs is use the data input on the back to connect your rack gear. I recommend that you use an isolation transformer between the rig and audio gear.

You will probably have to change some menu settings to switch the am/ssb audio input from the mic jack to the data plug. It still won't be wide band, maybe 3 to 4k max.

You could use something like a behringer 802 mixing board. It has a mic preamp, 3 band eq and phantom power if you use a condenser mic. That and a cheap karaoke mic like a shure sv100 or maybe a shure sm58 will give you a good sound.

Well this what I have so far ,
Shure SM 58
Art Tube Preamp
Behringer 7 band EQ
Art SCL2 Compressor
Hoping to get it working fine with a 148GTL
Then Adapt it so I can use it on the FT897D :)

Let us know how that turns out. I have a hunch that if you start running some big power you'll need RF shielded audio cables to prevent feedback. This became all too evident when I first tried the rack audio gear interface awhile ago. Guess I'll have to pony up for some more shielded cables and ferrites since the shack was "upgraded" ;)

Balanced xlr cables are usually fine. Keep them and everything else as short as possible. It's always fun working the gremlins out if this stuff.
