Congress put's light bulb ban on hold

It's about time!
That is one of the most stupid 'ideas' of this whole administration. Now all the legislature needs to do is rectify all the other stupid 'ideas' this administration has had. I'll hold my breath for that one...

Strange just today a fellow worker brought up the subject and my response was oh well I'll just start buying the new diode style.

Now I don't have to worry about the diodes.

Speaking of the LED lamps, I was looking at the LED equivalent of a 100 watt flood lamp bulb today for $44.95. Yes, $44.95!!!!!!! and this was at Walmart. The hell with being green. I turned green at the thought of spending $44.95 for a single flood lamp. The average price of a normal LED replacement bulb is running around $8-11 each.

Do NOT jump on the LED bandwagon yet. We conducted extensive testing on them at the plant as a replacement for over 800 HID HiBay fixtures and ended up going with fluorescent instead.

Heating and premature failure is still a problem that most manufacturers deny.

Congress is afraid of all the reparation suits if the ban the bulb.

I suppose. I do like the old bulbs but there robbing my wallet. Everytime I turn one on all I see is money signs burning away :(

Lights are the least of my worries when it comes to my power bill. When you figure out the actual cost of running lights, unless yopu leave them all on all the time, it's a small percentage of the total power bill. Compare that to the purchase cost of the new bulbs and the payback is a long time not to mention the hazardous waste problem with the CFL bulbs. I put CFL's in my unheated storage barn/workshop and hate them. When cold they look like candles when first turned on and take several minutes before they emit white light.

I bought two cases of regular light bulbs about 10 years ago. They were 130 vac instead of 120 vac, there's a lot of fluctuation here at times. I think I'm down to the last 4-pack now, time to get more. Wasted heat? Maybe, but at least I can see!
We use those curly bulbs at work, have to, no choice. They are the absolute pits. People tend to reach up and unscrew them most days, more common than you'd think. They do have a guarantee, but just how much is that guarantee worth if you have to take advantage of it very often? And then there's the 'clean up' if one should happen to break. Being a commercial business, you have to go by OSHA regs about that, and you DON'T wanna know what those are. As in evacuating the building until the area around that breakage is cleaned, then aired (mercury). Yeah, right, you bet!
I just happen to run across one of those LED bulbs that would replace those curly ones, works very nicely, no flicker, about the same amount of light produced. The 'catch' with those is the cost, $20 for one bulb? Counted the number of bulbs in the 'front' portion of the work place. How about 58 of them at $20 a shot. ... Yep, sure is economical! (I took my bulb home!) Three of those LED bulbs means a case of regular light bulbs. Guess which I'm gonna buy??

I didn't know Amish people used CB.

:)

Well you learned something new today, didn't you.

What is hard on us though is sitting here turning this hand crank to generate enough "Home-made" electricity to keep the PC, monitors, switch, router and modem running!

Coax question. I just put up a new Sirio monsoon base antenna with 100’ of rg8u coax testing with myMFJ antenna analyzer shows 1.4 swr at 26.965mhz and a 1.1 at 27.405 mhz . When I checked the ohms it’s steady a 30 ohms across the entire bandwidth.
  • @ Geoexplorer69:
Is 30 ohms worth worrying about in a 100’ run of rg8u ?
