SSB Tuned Radio
What we need is a radio designed for 11 meters SSB....period. OK maybe 11 and 10 to have a larger market? base.
I for one would buy a radio slanted for SSB operation. Kenwood-Yeasu-Icom do it everday for ham operators. Don't care much for the AM Monsters, i do not need radios with echo, noise toys, talkback, flashing lights, buzzers, and bs. I know these are fun running the road, at the truck stops. Add 1500 watts on AM just to kick some butt at the truck stop or play in the Super Bowel is not me. :bored:
But for me

Someone needs to design a radio for serious ssb specs built with SSB operators in mind....I think they would sell...worldwide
what I would like to see is......
1. Double or triple conversion receiver
2. Selection of filter modes, (wide/ narrow or variable) with Real Good Filters for SSB operation.
3. DSP
4. 6-7 point freq counter.... maybe a clock? would be nice to monitor UTC?
5. RIT
6. Scanning
7. 40-50 watts....ok maybe 100? why do we need 400watts in a mobile....they make kickers for these power outputs. they are cheap...put that money in the receiver/filters/??. buy a kicker if you want 400 watts. how many folks do we talk everyday that are running even 200 wts and up? most folks i have talked with use 100 or less... most use less. Is it just me or is any mobile radio with 400 watts designed for SSB or is it just a way to build and market another AM monster?
8. Computer connections for running software controls (HRD type screens)
9. Screens are cheap now....put a decent size screen for blind suckers like me?? touch screen??. detachable face? or remote radio (TCB R 2000 style) with a touch screen operation. I'am really a switch and knob guy but know what the world is going to and likes.....i could deal with a computer software controlled rdaio IF i had the things I want?
10. built it as a computer board type chassis the radio could be made for plug in play boards to make upgrades easy, add features, or add FM,AM, Weather bands if wanted, Whistles bells and dog calls,,,,just plig and play...????
I guess I'am lookin to build a Elecraft for 11 meters....they took a good idea an transformed it into a very good product. I think with as many foks running HF rigs on 11 mtrs there is a market for real radios....but what do i know? I do know I would Buy a new radio next week if it had half these type features....I buy one next week if it had a decent ssb filter set and selectivity. I guess I need to buy a HF rig and shut up?
