This company looks pretty promising. Extensive line of RF power transistors, including 2SC 2166, 1969, 2312, and 2879. VERY competitive pricing. I've placed an order for an assortment for testing and evaluation. I will post the results. Wish they had a 2SC 1306/1307.

Huagao Semiconductors are very popular here in the electronics repair trade. From what I've been told, they have the performance and quality of OEM parts. At least in the commercial audio equipment field. No one I know seems to have had any experience with their RF transistors, so I thought I would give them a look-see. It would be nice to have a source for NLA devices other than RF Parts and Ebay (and their high pricing).

Sounds OK. Why the interest in the 2SC1306/1307s? Nostalgia/restoration? Thought one can easily replace those with the 2SC2166/1969?

I have several 858SSB radios that have 1969 finals, and I would like to restore them to stock condition. Like you said, a nostalgia/restoration thing. Also, the 1307 has a max collector current rating of 8A. The 1969 and 2312 only do 6A. I never push my radios to the max, but I like the extra headroom the 1307 affords.

That looks like the HG Semi transistors I bought about 4 or 5 years ago. I hope their quality control is better than it was then. I got 1 key out of a pair of 2879's. Only used a 2w DK. They blew on second key.

I understand they can print whatever they fancy and lie at will. Here is a report of their MRF477's in a RF amp from their site:

They list 2sc2290's at @ $17 ea. and the 2sc2290A'a at @ $22 ea. I'm not sure what the difference is between the the two yet. The SD1446 list at @ $18 ea. The 2sc2879's list at about $20 ea. If these pan out, we should do a group buy for a discount. If they're fakes, forget it.

Hopefully there is enough demand for these 2879's transistors to get them closer to the old Toshiba specs in the field. The Chinese tube makers seemed to get the 3-500zg tubes right, so why can't they get these right.

Too good to be true? Word on other forums is that these HG made 2879's are not any good yet. Don't have any so I can't say for sure... just parroting. Let us know what you find either way.

To be fair, many 11 meter amplifier builders copy a very old design. I'm curious who first engineered this classic design?

Time will tell if the qc is really any different.

Some serious side-by-side testing with original Toshibas is in order.
I mean tests done in a scientific manner, not here's my 4 x 2sc2879 box with HG transistors, now here it is with Toshiba transistors. Those are simple watt meter tests, not enough control over the variables to provide significant data, just a crude way to show the gain.

I think it's great and all that the pp100 & HG transistors are on the market (good for replacing burnt parts "on the cheap") but to be honest I think it's about time we (as a whole) stepped into the 21st century when it comes to amp design, more efficient components have since been created.
