Concrete poured for base of tower #2 today. It has been raining so much this summer in eastern Pennsylvania it was difficult to schedule the contractor.

Also, not much top soil here. Go down about 3 feet and hit the rock ledge. Contractor has to drill into the mountain and cement in the rebar cage in the rock. Same goes for the guy anchors. Quit a chore and not cheap.

Tower is 60 feet of Rohn 25g with a tilt over base

Antenna is a DX Engineering Skyhawk (3 el on 20, 3 el on 15, and 4 el on 10). The elements are assembled. Just have to mount them to the boom.

Rotator is mounted in the tower (Yaesu G-2800DXA) and tower is assembled.

Now need a few days of good weather when my helpers are off work to get it up in the air.

Hope to have it up in time for CQ WW SSB contest at the end of October

A couple more pics for Tower #2. The rebar cage, the tilt plate, and the hazer.

We decided to try a hazer to make it easier to service or add another antenna.

Going up today to assemble the tower and install the hazer. Oh....it is a 2 hour drive from my house to the ham shack.

Saturday was a beautiful day and we were able to get a lot done. Tower is assembled and mounted on the tilt base. The hazer and it's winch installed and the boom for the new antenna was completed.

Sunday's chores will be to set up the guy lines and mount the antenna elements to the boom.

About the only guy I know left, still building new complete systems.

Ton's of info via Google about the old/no longer produced Glen Martin system.
I have seen several discussion groups and other individual builders via YouTube vids around.
Also there was the option for 25G using a "Half" section of 45G as a frame for homebrew type.
All the Best
Gary

We have one built by Angel, WA4AV. https://sites.google.com/site/antennavator/

Well built and fit the Rohn 25 perfectly. No adjustments necessary. He doesn’t provide stainless steel nuts and bolts so we bought our own.

We also had to supply the winch and pulley which we got on Amazon for about $200. We are using a 120v winch. We also replaced 35 ft of 1/8 inch the cable that came with the with 120 feet of 1/4 inch aircraft control cable.

We bought from Angel because a fellow ham friend has them on three of his towers.

Coax question. I just put up a new Sirio monsoon base antenna with 100’ of rg8u coax testing with myMFJ antenna analyzer shows 1.4 swr at 26.965mhz and a 1.1 at 27.405 mhz . When I checked the ohms it’s steady a 30 ohms across the entire bandwidth.
  • @ Geoexplorer69:
Is 30 ohms worth worrying about in a 100’ run of rg8u ?
