More money than brains?

It is amazing the money that is floating around out there and if people want something bad enough they cough it up. Must be nice but I'll never Know. LOL

Not sure those needle movements are new. Why would they be mid-scale with no power applied if it was new?
Could have been static. I have seen meters actually move as you wave a hand in front of them the static was so strong on the plastic meter face.

I looked at the ebay listing and the needles were in the same position for photos taken on channel 13 and 17 as well. I doubt it is due to static.

In that condition (price aside), it really doesn't matter if the radio works. I just thought it was odd that the needles didn't move after being handled and plugged in. If that were a regularly occuring problem due to static, I think I would have noticed it by now in some of my own radios. Just thought it was worth pointing out, not making any accusations.

Can you ask the seller why the needles are not at zero with no power to the radio?

I received a reply from the seller.

Hi joval9144,

I am not sure why they don't sit at zero with the power off. I would imagine it was intended that way. If you find the answer, would you let me know? I didn't key the mic to show the needles move, because it wasn't hooked up to an antenna. Solid buy. I sold one like this last year and had no complaints.

I would think plugging it in would bleed that off.

Unplugging has zero effect on static electricity. I have walked into working transmitter sites and looked at the transmitter meters and thought WHOWAH!! then realized that static was making the meters read whatever. A quick squirt of Windex on the meter faces and a gentle wipe restored readings to normal. I have also had meters peg sitting on the bench unplugged on really dry winter days. My large face Tripplet multimeter is bad for static making the meter deflection whacky.

  • @ Geoexplorer69:
Coax question. I just put up a new Sirio monsoon base antenna with 100’ of rg8u coax testing with myMFJ antenna analyzer shows 1.4 swr at 26.965mhz and a 1.1 at 27.405 mhz . When I checked the ohms it’s steady a 30 ohms across the entire bandwidth.

Is 30 ohms worth worrying about in a 100’ run of rg8u ?
