No, the 5555's do not have the boost board.I'm not really familiar with quad 5 n2, does it have the booster board and do 100+ watts out of the box? If it does, then it's probably the same platform.

19VCan't remember which video on YouTube. The reviewer said the extra board is 20 volts to the finals.
19VDCOne note about the voltage booster board. On several videos, I have heard the comment that the radio will make full power on the stock power cord. No need for a bulky 10awg or 6awg cord, boosting the voltage to make power means less current draw. And that makes it super simple to replace an old radio.
Ps. I wonder what voltage it runs at?
Bigger numbers on the wattmeter. Bling marketing 101.The main "upgrade" for the 955 is the booster board which volts the hell out of the finals. I've had one of these for a few months now and have put it through it's paces. I find the radio talks well, has great audio quality and is easy to adjust. But, there is something I don't understand about this version.
After playing with mine I find that 120 pep is easy as pie, and 140 pep is possible with a bit of over modulation. I turned mine back to 110 pep.
I don't understand the thought process behind volting the finals when there are plenty of more powerful and rugged mosfets out there. Why beat the hell out of a transistor when there's one available that will give the extra output without beating it up. Can't be cost because they are now paying to have this new voltage booster board built and installed. Plus, no one will notice the difference between 80 watts and 100+ on the receiving end.
I'm absolutely NOT knocking Stryker over this, I'm just questioning the logic, or, lack thereof.
The Stryker firmware, is forked from the Anytone.BC- Stryker did some mods that improved on the design. Big enough to earn the higher value. They also have a longer warranty.
More than just bling. You need to look much deeper. Put all the clones on a bench and see.
They all START with the Qixiang (Anytone) SHORT chassis but the firmware changes make the difference.
My supplier- direct from the distributor. No middle man. Best price from a retailer I saw was $440.
Of course it is! Most any firmware mod is.The Stryker firmware, is forked from the Anytone.
Can anyone provide details on how to convert the new 955HPC + for 11 Meters?
That you, Joe? (WR79/NB79 Harry here)You need to install a small jumper on the underside of the board. If nobody else replies, I'll post a photo of mine here this weekend.
i use green in most radios i have unless its 1 color onlly. DO NOT OWN AN EYE BURNING BLUE LIT RADIO for same reason as you.I'm really not sure Greg! I have the first edition of the 5555N2 and I get about 80 watts PEP max on sideband. Pez would know the scoop for sure, but I know there were a ton of improvements made in the second edition 5555N2, which is the one with the shorter case. Whether that includes higher power output I do not know.
Hoping someone chimes in here who knows the difference between the two radios or if they are the exact same inside.
That's my sneaking suspicion too...
To each their own but I absolutely cannot stand blue LED's! They really mess up my 60 year old eyes for some reason. I have to put little bits of tape over the bright ones that seem to be in every single piece of electronics these days.
I really don't understand the obsession with them.......I much prefer the red and green LED's.
Do not take this as an attack against you but you are the last person that should saying the above. That said I agree with you 100%. I thought you where rediculious for the modifications you had done to your Stryker955. To get to what 140w?The main "upgrade" for the 955 is the booster board which volts the hell out of the finals. I have been saying this for years. Blue light also disrupts the quality of your sleep. Red and Green where used for decades not just because they could not make blue LED's but they knew those colors where not that hard on the eye's to look at, did not destroy night vision, and did not look like a metalic flake blue bass boat!i use green in most radios i have unless its 1 color onlly. my eye dr aid blue is hard on everybodys eyes and might take years to see it. i told himmy pc hurt my eyes, said bring it to me next chance you get. i took it to him .5 minutes later what was blue turned mint green easy on my eyes. 1 of my bearcat 980 can only be seen via red screen too
You don't know the rest of the story about the 955 with the beefed up finals that I HAD at one time. Those finals were a test and they turned out to be not suited for running an amp. Yes, they could be turned down far enough to drive it, no issues. BUT, they were extremely sensitive when keying into an amp as the split second it takes the relay to close is too much for them. They fail. I had them put the stock finals back in it and am still using that radio today. The 955+ still uses the original finals but they are volted to approx 20 volts to get them to put out up to 140 w PEP. As I said, I do not recommend that. I still have the radio they sent me for testing and I have it turned to 110 w PEP where it will stay. I run my current 955 at 10W carrier on AM, swinging to 45 to 50 PEP, and only 45 W pep on SSB. I never exceed these figures. As to your question about Stryker vs Anytone, I like the three year warranty of the Stryker, the SUPREME customer service, and the fact that I don;t have to punch through a shitload of menus and 20 button pushes to turn my mic gain up. A twist of the wrist makes me louder, and a tweak of my fingers changes modes. There are many more differences but I'm too old and lacking stamina to keep typing.Do not take this as an attack against you but you are the last person that should saying the above. So why would you a guy with 140w+ modified Stryker955 purchase one of these?
I am expecting to see you with a nice shrine in your home with a Stryker 955 as the deity surrounded by candles and flowers and incense! LOL Maybe a lesser deity could be D-Rail holding a Stryker955 outstretched to the heavans! LOL
These latest versions of the 955 do not appear to me to be better than the origanal version. They definitely do not appear to be wortht he money compared to how much radio you can get from Anytone for far less money!
As always just opinions and humor on my part. I have never been a fan of the Stryker955, it's price, or chassing watts inside the chasis that wont matter in the end on the air. I will admit the origanal did have fantastic audio!
