Plan to make a 5/8 for 20m. The 5/8 would be ground mounted for practical length reasons. I use a 1/2 wave and soon will be able to put feed point of the 1/2 wave to 5m. Will a ground mounted 5/8 with radials do better than a1/2 wave at 5m. The 2 factors are gains of the 2 antennas vs feed point height practicality of the 2 antennas. The 1/2 wave I max would be 2.5 meters higher than the 5/8 at ground mount. Which is likely to have best gain at low angle gain?
If they have the same tip height, the gain and radiation angle will be very close to each other. However, I find it strange that you would ask this question in a place where I am comparing elevated radials??? All of the antennas discussed here are elevated with elevated radials. Further, doesn't your questions deserve a thread of its own on the main forum?
