I ran that mic on my RCI 2950 years ago.
I got 12 volt positive and negative off the main board ran out the PA jack with small wires. Hooked up a 7805 voltage regulator in line for +5V. Made custom mic cord wired for all functions , even the channel/frequency up/down switch worked.
Sold it...
Another tip... this is from Mike's radio repair.
I use GC Electronics Radio-TV Service Solvent to soften up and remove the "Death" Bond from components, Unsolder parts from board, drop them in a small glass jar, like baby food jar size, soak them for a while then remove and pluck the softened...
RE-cap the entire radio. Look for cold solder joints also. Remove all the Sony death bond glue and look for eaten away component legs and/or shorted parts from that glue.
The diode mod to IC103 is very common. I do it on rigs that have the talkback bleed through.
The transistor on the main board is factory. Usually held down with Sony Death Bond. Remove that crap and use HY910 Thermal Adhesive/glue everywhere the death bond was.
I use this thermal silicone type glue. HY910. Dries to silicone sealant type phase. Non corrosive and will transfer heat!

And yes, I will use it on large caps...
Yeah, I have a few stand-alone amps. Nothing big... 4 pill and smaller. This would be more of a " will it work" experiment and possibly sell it if it last kinda deal.
I got plenty of 29s and I only paid $35 for the board. The 2879 however would be tough to part with.
Gonna be on the lookout...
Well Tree, I bought it off eBay from a seller that got it for a repair part for a customers radio. I think the Stryker SR-490 and SR-497HPC used these in the early version.
Yes, it has been sitting around for a few yrs with no radio to call home.
PCBX-0615R5 is what I have. Some info in this...
I have installed several of the RFX units on 29s and 25s in the past. Just kinda pokin the bear at this idea.... for now.
I have 4 still good used original 2879s although I see most PA boards like what I got in the pics run a 1446.
But, there are 2 or more versions of this board. 1 runs a BPJ...
Never hurts to cover the repair to prevent oopsies....
