For fun and out of sheer boredom I strung up about 280 ft of wire in a triangle suspended about 20’ off the ground and threw a 4:1 balun at the north point for a feed. Trimmed it close enough and I’ll try it out tonight. If I like it I might consider doing a bigger loop for 160 I dunno

Sad to say that while the triangle did work well the gains or losses compared to my ocfd were hit or miss. Maybe if I was up higher or had it orientated a little different. I will say that you should try it just to see.

Edit. I forgot to mention it is much quieter than the ofcd. I’ll raise it up and see how it compares. I forgot to add a choke so I did that. We’ll see how it performs for a bit switching back and forth.

Loops are my favorite. Yes they ARE quiet antennas being a Current-Point type. Your shape has the 4th lowest gain going down the list.
Best gain: Circular
2nd: Square
3rd: Rectangular
4th: Triangular.
.
80 meters for me always came in around 255 feet. Be very careful making a 160. Doubling the wire for me also turned them into Lightning magnets ..... you're putting a lot of wire out there for static attraction. If you make one be sure to unplug and isolate the coax end if there's a storm anywhere close by.

I’d love a circle. Logistically it’s not an option right now. My house has a metal roof and I’m trying to keep from crossing it. That’s why I went with the triangle. Height is where I’m looking now.
