No worries. Yes, hold down the "FUNC" button and then once it gets into the menu, rotate the main channel knob to #42.Sorry if I ask the question but I live alone and haven't had the time to set down and experiment or get myself in trouble fumbling around and messing up a radio. Just watched some videos on you tube.
Thanks for the info. I checked my radio this morning and I see they changed the button location and names from the original AT-6666 on the video I watched. After you get to #42 do you just push the FUNC button again to get out of the menu ? So much to Do & Learn and so little time when your a tired Old Fart ! LOLNo worries. Yes, press the func button again. Or just wait about 5 seconds and it will automatically back out of the menu for you and go back to normal operating mode. Thanks for the info. I checked out both Q6Pros today and like I figured both only have 37 steps in the menu so I guess both need a firmware update. Boy we wonder how we can screw that up ! LOL If I do a firmware up date will it erase any settings the dealer done like unlocking the clarifier ?Yes, press the func button again. After a firmware update, the radio will be reset to factory default settings. "Unlocking the clarifier" is a simple user-menu option. No mods required. There is nothing to be worried about with the user-menu settings, its a very simple process. After doing a firmware update, read the user manual (it's a good manual), and set it up as you like.I checked out both Q6Pros today and like I figured both only have 37 steps in the menu so I guess both need a firmware update. The first step will be getting the proper cable to tie the radio and computer together and not buying the wrong one. Will the firmware update have any effect on the radio alignment or dead key power settings which was suppose to have been adjusted by the radio shop that I bought the 2 radios from. And the real plus question is Hopefully would the same programming cable work on the President Lincoln II+. I might be wishful thinking ! LOL The cable looks like the same end as on 2 of my GPSs so I might have a cable around here. After a firmware update, the radio will be reset to factory default settings. Your biggest challenge will probably be the firmware update itself, which is again not difficult but you MUST follow all steps accurately, and be familiar with PC / comport use. I would suggest that you check YouTube for some How-To videos that will guide you through the process.
Thanks for the answers to my questions. That's why I'm here because I didn't study radio when I was younger like I wish I would have. Radio is a re-newed interest after I retired and live alone. You might say ( I'm working on my bucket list ) that I couldn't afford when I was raising a family. I even understand that not all USB cables are equal even for the GPSs. Just a matter of another purchase ! LOLIt is the same cable for both radios. The cables you have for GPS that look similar will NOT work. The radio cable is proprietary and is NOT actually a normal USB cable, despite its looks. (It's a USB to serial converter, with the required conversion circuitry built-in.)
There are 2 versions of the radio programming cable available. One uses a Prolific PL2302 driver, and the other uses a newer FTDI driver. Go with the FTDI version for an easier installation.
Alignment settings will not be changed with the firmware update.
Found that FTDI cable on ebay yesterday and had my daughter order it today for me along with other things on my wish list. It's time to get excited and start studying Installation. Has a firmware update for the short chassis N2 been released yet?It is the same cable for both radios. The cables you have for GPS that look similar will NOT work. Does this circuit not require the .47uF capacitor to ground on the audio pin that exists in the stock mic? Also, would you know how crucial the .01uF capacitor to ground on pins 3 & 4 (TX and channels) are? I am building a custom mic and digital mode circuit based on the info you have shared, that puts everything into one package. I am also following the Dr. DX post about the AT-6666 Pro mic wiring info from radio reference(i have seen it posted here too, somewhere). I have determined the channel switching and PF button work without the cap in place but also want to make sure I am not going to fry anything. Especially on the audio circuit. Thank you for sharing all the info you have on this radio! For anyone wanting to try the AT-6666 PRO / QT80 on digital modes, see the attached file for a DIY cable how-to, and the required menu settings.

No, you don't "need" to add it - but feel free to experiment if you have any RX/TX noise issues, but in general, it is not needed as per the instructions.Does this circuit not require the .47uF capacitor to ground on the audio pin that exists in the stock mic?
It's purpose is to filter any noise and reduce the chance of incorrect button triggering. Adding this to your custom interface is a good idea. Also, would you know how crucial the .01uF capacitor to ground on pins 3 & 4 (TX and channels) are? Your only real risk of damage here is the hot 12VDC on the pin 6. You can damage the radio if you short this out, or send it somewhere it should not be sent. Pin 6 is not fused, so be careful.
