Get yourself a good meter and check the radio too make sure SWR is low... (Below 1.3:1) before kicking your amp on.
Re-Cal your SWR meter everytime you make an adjustment OR power change...
Playing around like that I got a 1.05:1 Match with my Imax 2000 and Maco Shooting Star... Not 1.5...
The Imax 2000 sits above the Maco ... At 150'..... That's feedpoint Height ....
With this KLV 1000 I am tagging stations 30 miles away with S-9 signals ....
With the Maco Shooting star.... 20X multiplication... Shoot you know what happens.... I got that KLV turning about 1.2 KW on SSB...
Let's see... Next time I guess I need to clarify better...
So Master Chief what works for you?? Since it does... I'm sure it probably wouldn't bother you to go out and do it again right??
Different strokes for different folks... Not all Antenna's perform the best under all conditions...
I agree... Nothing like getting your first amp and getting all kinds of figures of DeadKey,RMS,Peak,PEP...
What a pain the A**... And I'm not sure when someone is talking their talking in terms of Swing as RMS... PEP... ETC ETC ETC...
Thank god I'm past that part of the learning curve!
I'll agree with FreeCell...
I put 2 Meters in line.... When showing 4 Watts Avg. My PEP meter was reading 12 Watts about the same time...
For close guesstimation...
3 x Avg Power= PEP
PEP Divided by 3= Avg Power
Very rough but close enough for Government work... LMAO!! :P
I've had them break and still have it working(As long as that Center Conductor on the PL-259 is shoved far enough up inside)... But if that Ground wire is wrong....
But yeah your right.... Finals don't appreciate that type of abuse very well.... POP goes the final!
Yup... Sure looks that way... So my comment earlier of "May be shorted out" may be true afterall...
I had a Hustler 5-BTV that you had to cut the PL-259 off and put the Conductor between Washers or the Antenna would short out... Couldn't receive or Transmit.
That Ground wire may indeed be...
Excellent observation! That definately looks like something is amiss there for sure... I had that happen on a PL-259 of mine too... Re-cut and another PL-259 put back in place and I was back in buisness..
Stupid me... I am sure it was my fault... 1 too many twists of the pliers trying to get...
The Antenna's are great because they worked great for the people that had them... Like Wise my Imax 2000 works 2nd to none so for me the Antenna is superior... And the I-10K used by others is superior...
If you can find something that works for you congrats.... That's what this hobby is all...
Yeah... First of all get yourself an SWR meter... Your going blind on this one trying to adjust with no meter... Can buy one that will get you by at Radio Shack.
And because you don't have a Meter... Those little red lights mean nothing... If you have something grounded out you won't...
Oh I know believe me... There's quite a few unhappy campers that's had the KLV ...
I tried to dig up info on the Texas Star but couldn't seem to come up with a Concrete answer on these things and wanted to get back into a Tube linear...
Anymore tube linears comming through the door I can...
Well H&Y did as they said they would... The KLV is on the shelf right now on Stand-by ... I have used it quite extensively the last few days... So far it is holding together and is quite nice.
Here is what I learned from talking to Techs, Forum members and calling their tech support and...
Yeah I am a member there as well and have liked the reviews seen... I was wondering if anyone here had used them... Like to hear all the input and the why's and why not's of the radio!
Congrats... And I figured you would be happy with GI Joes... They have always treated me right and set my radios up well... They will definately have more of my buisness in the future.
Keep us posted on how well it's doing!
