That's a great idea for a firmware update, if it is possible to manipulate the hardware to do this. I can't say I completely agree with you or Qixiang on this though. They don't warranty the radio, so once you buy it, you are dead to them. Why should they care if you toast your own radio?
Is the FQP13N10 now obsolete? I try to avoid using obsolete parts, it's hard to duplicate performance and reliability in the event the devices need replacing in the future.
Personally, I am not a fan of it. I have purchased hundreds of thousands of feet of it in my professional life, regretting a lot of it. At HF, I use RG-8/U whenever possible.
9913 is not RG8/U. Unlike RG8/U and it's military designated counterpart RG-213, 9913 is an air dielectric cable. Which is not used outdoors in the wireless industry, due to water intrusion/condensation.
The difficult part is that you need to have the 3 board service kit to properly work on this model It was rather expensive to buy from Yaesu, close to $400 for 3 extender boards. The other difficulty, is getting parts. I used to work on this model and have the service kit.
