We sold a ton of those back in the day. A lower priced basic radio like your 1-600 made them popular with first time buyers. An enduring survivor that’s also easy to repair or restore.
I don’t know about the issue you have with the touch bar or if it even could be fixed, but I once mended a broken one for a customer by gluing on a custom name badge tag. In that case, it covered the damage plus added some personally.
For clarity I drafted your schematic. Let me know if I made any mistakes, if so I’ll correct them with a revision. I wasn’t positive about a few components that were bleached out. I don’t have a 5 volt relay at this time, but will try this circuit sometime later. Thanks for sharing.
I believe the 13-857B has the same Cybernet PTBM039AOX board as the 13-882C. Many small variations of this PLL 02A abound. The following is the schematic and pot adjustment points. If you need further info on the can adjustments let me know.
I usually use several programs to rejuvenate large schematics, but in this case it was done with Paint Shop Pro X by copying and pasting the various symbols taken from a template. The fonts and connecting lines is a product contained within Paint Shop Pro. The image is then cropped, reduced to...
Midland had 3 versions of the 13-882. This covers the earliest “plain version” that CB tricks omitted. The stand out feature in some of these early crystal matrix radios are the two transformers some of them utilized in the audio chain. I found this particular radio a little strange concerning...

I noticed that CB tricks have scans of the factory manual, but I thought that the Sam’s version would help complement that archive. I once owned the Tram 60 when they first hit the market. Even though I received my dealer’s discount, I remember how it affected my budget for month’s afterwards...
The original 23ch Cobra 29A is still alive and well because of quality parts and good workmanship. Part of that longevity is also credited to the far lower amount of hacks preformed back then. The occasional crystal swapping for extra channels was about the only mod done. The prolific number...
My family hates sardines too. I eat them at least twice a week, Usually with lettuce and real mayo on toast. Although I like them all the way from the pungent to the very mild, “King Oscar Wild Caught” sardines in olive oil is my favorite. They don’t have that strong flavor and strong smell...
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to all of your renditions Greg. I especially love your lower range in Over the Rainbow plus a few others that has a similar tonal quality to Willie Nelson.
Meh… All you will need is two Christmas tree style air fresheners. Hang one in the back that smells like burnt rubber, and hang the other one in the front that smells like a mixture of nitro and gasoline.
