well, im glad i asked.
yes, he is using a power mic. think its a square Astatic one. i dont work with him but i remember him saying he got this mic a couple months ago. i told him its not needed but to keep 8t at only 2 or 3 on the mic.
i can now tell him the board he wants is made for other...
No, Seriously! not me.
He drives for a rock hauling company that has cracked down on drivers for running big power radios in the trucks. so i sold him a favorite of mine, Uniden 66. i got a few of them. now hes wanting it to be louder. I told him to turn the talkback up. It will feel louder...
this is very true. the Optima would be easier in that fact. thanks for pointing this out. although with no echo, he probably wouldnt be happy anyway. hes luck i keep a radio in the damn truck!
Starting to think i should put my Uniden 66 in the truck and be done with it. and that brings up...
ive narrowed it down to 2. optima or the lincoln. anyone want to say why i should choose one over the other? i like the idea 9f the fan on the optima to start with. but im still open to opinions.
thanks for the email addy. i just send him one. hope to get his recommendation. that should be a big help. will post up what he says. unless he shows up here. ha.
it is a company truck and i did think of a slip seat box but the way i feel about it is like this. Ive been driving trucks for 37 years now. i did the box radio, ive taken my stuff in and out of trucks and now im able to leave it all in place. the only thing im worried about is my radio. so i...
I looked up that Stryker and its discontinued. I don't think I'd be happy going without SSB. I could go without CW as I don't get the chance for it in the truck much. I dont like trying to key while driving anyway. But thanks for your opinion/recommendation.
guessing my 706 must not get too hot up there as ive not seen any ill efects with it. of course i run it on proper freqs. bet if i was keying up with a vswr on 20+ it would get warm.
btw, a couple little computer boxes up in that panel too so its not just a tiny cabinet. just not open to air flow.
its inclosed in the back. not completely closed but it goes into the panel so no air flow. i can see it getting warm up there in the summer months.
if a radio was to get hot fins then thats probably not going to be a good thing. thanks for pointing that out. i looked at the Yeticom site. they...
If the right combination comes along from your recommendations I'd buy very soon but I haven't bought new in a long time so I need some help finding what I want.
To start with, I'm a truck driver. I drive a 2017 Kenworth so I only have room for something that is no bigger than a Cobra 29 w/...
Yea, I should have stated that I did that. I put a second mic on it. I had made an adaptor years ago for 4 to 5 pin and gave that a go and the guy I was chatting with said it didn't change at all. Odd I thought. Changing to a different mic should have made a difference. I'm starting to think...
OK, Went thru the alignment steps. Had to compare my book to the online info and bow was the book off. Had an issue on a couple places but after I was done I finally got this thing TX and RX on freq.
Now I got an audio check and two people say its sounds tinny or pinched. Any ideas?
Sorry guys. Been out of town. I drive truck. Finally got back home. I do have a HP Frequency counter and an HP signal generator. Old stuff but it works well and was calibrated not too many years ago. Its gotten me by and I do well with them. I will start from the beginning and go step by step...
Problem I'm having is fixing what a golden screwdriver did. Someone had been trying to find more power, like usual, and knocked this thing off freq. Of course AM being so wide it dont mater much so that didn't bother the golden screwdriver. The TX and clarifier is not even close to being right...
I've got the service manual.
Anyway, what I'm trying to do is align the TX and RX. According to what I read in the manual, you can adjust the RX frequency but I'm not seeing any way to adjust the TX on LSB. And the RX is adjusted with two pots? Can anyone explain how this is properly done? The...
All good to go now. Just needs a little tune-up and it will be done. Its not really pretty but its complete and working as it should.
Thanks for the help guys.(y)
Well, This is a Cobra 29LTD with the side mic. No WX or ST or any of that stuff. As far as wire colors, that beyond correct as this radio had been hacked up pretty badly by someone that shouldn't have been messing with it.
I got part of the NB/ANL working but its not changing when I go from NB...
