Codeman,
I came into the possession of the 139 many years ago. It was re-capped about 3 years ago. Then the driver and finals went south and the power supply took a dump. It is all stock except for the extra channels on the CB/PA switch and the PA jack on the rear converted to a foot key jack...
No problems making contacts today. I hit Northern Ireland this morning and Southern California this afternoon.
Yesterday several contacts to England. I have been monitoring most of the weekend and heard many stations. I only called CQ a few times to check conditions.
Using vintage gear today...
Same here, I only take on projects that interest ME! It's not for the money (and I do have a 60-70 hour a week job) I just cannot sit idle. It is something I have been interested in for over 50 years and cold weather does not work well with me doing the wife's "Outside Projects".
I keep thinking...
I’m just going to leave these 2 pages from Lou’s assembly/installation instructions. It may help “tamp down” the squeal in some applications. I have one of these boards and have built it but never installed it in any radio. May try it soon since this thread reminded me that I even had the board...

See the attachments concerning installation/operation.

What is wrong with your TS440?
I have “rehabbed” several. I am not an expert by any means but all of those I have worked on are still working.

I would set the reflector at 5% longer than the driven and the Director at 5% shorter.
I recently went thru the same exercise with a 10 year old Hygain beam.
Good luck.

I had an inductor on a TS440 bite me once. All of the dreaded dots on display. Reworked the PLL board, repaired thousands of solder joints on every board in the unit, and every other suggested repair for the dots on display.
Found an inductor (on the RF board if I remember correctly) bad...
I am getting close to finishing a “Frankenstein” radio and need to add a “Modulation” indicator circuit to the PLL02 chassis I transplanted into the 23 channel base station chassis I am using. The Base station chassis was originally equipped with an “On Air” indicator and have that handled...
