I bought a 25’ roll of Heil straight microphone cord from DX Engineering. Don’t remember what the cost of it was.
I have used quite a bit of it. Works well. I do not like coiled microphone cords at all.

There is an option (hack?) to enable a “seconds” counter to the clock. I believe it involves removing a diode. It is my understanding this is shown in the factory schematic though I do not have that schematic to be certain.
This might be the cause of your flashing digit to the right of your...
Try driving the Palomar 300a with 100 peak watts on the Low power switch setting.
100 Peak watts or PEP or “Bird Watts”
Or whatever you choose to call it.
You are seeing approximately 30 watts output per tube with your 2 watt input.
Chances are pretty good that you will see more output from...
If you are only driving it with 5 watts, then the High side can be used.
I have used mine with several different “1-10 watt drivers” and see approximately the same output on low that you are seeing.
On the High setting, with the same “1-10 watt drivers” I see approximately 350-375 watts...
It is difficult for me to decipher your last 1 sentence response.
But owning a Palomar 300a myself, the High position is for inputs of 1-10 watts. The Low position is inputs of 10-100 watts. It sounds backwards but the Low position bypasses the 2 driver tubes to make the amplifier “Appear” to...
I have bypassed all the capacitor “grounds” from the circuit board to the chassis in my Cobra 139XLR (Thanks to Unit399) and had a noticeable difference in noise level.
Mind you, this is a Base installation with all equipment tied to a common Earth ground, but it works!

Definitely upgrade the power wire. Chances are that what you have now is 16ga power cable.
Upgrade to 12ga and if that does not solve your problem, your RFX may have a bad/weak MOSFET.

Sometimes you just do something for nostalgia reasons or because someone tells you that it can’t be done.
I have a 20’ x 25’ area half full of “Nostalgia” and half full of “It can’t be done” working projects.
Was it sensible? Maybe not. Is it fun? HELL YEAH!

I did notice the sections have some play in them with the rivets holding them. I will either remove the rivets completely and add TRUE stainless clamps or add the stainless clamps in addition to the rivets.
The plan is to disassemble the entire antenna, give it a good cleaning and re-assemble it...
Actually, for what aluminum I will have to buy, going to a larger diameter for the middle and end sections (I can cut the swaged portion out of the boom mounted element) may make a difference in performance and very little difference in price of the 5/8” and 7/16” elements vs. going to 3/4” and...
This is an example of the “double swage” as I called I called it. In retrospect, I guess it is just swaged.
Below from the 1st element (attached to the boom) to the middle element.
Below from the middle tube to the outer tube.
I was lead to believe or read it somewhere that the larger the...
I would suspect not enough carrier or the SWR is so high that it cuts back the carrier.
And don’t waste your money on one of these Turds either!

Yes a bummer!! No rope burns, no aluminum tubing in the eye either.
I forgot to mention in the above post that the accident also snapped my 1:1 Current balun as well.
So since my antenna rotor has been broken since last September, I had some time (caught up on the “Honey Do List”) to drop the mast to replace it.
My mast is a 40’ 1 1/2” water pipe attached to a 6 x 6 concreted in the ground and bracketed to the house at the 20’ and 35’ heights. It is mounted...
Brother Dxer,
I was using my Anytone AT6666 at 15 watts peak into a 3 element Hygain beam on the flat side pointed due west. One of these days I will get my new rotor on the mast and may be able to get some other stations. Rotor has been broken for about 8 months. I've had the new one since...
