I thought it may be something I could use as a back-up (as if I need another).
I will give it another pass and if it still has the "white noise" down the road it goes.

I did that twice Mike. But thanks for the suggestion.
I believe the SSB receive came in at -112dbm at 12 dB/SN. I performed the procedure 2 times just to be sure.
It just seems to have a greater amount of hash in the receive than the others. I know this unit is not a Kenwood but it is irritating...
All,
I have recently aquired an RCI 2970DX in a trade for some work I did. It was "Truckerized" with the bias VR's max'd out, mod limiter cut and strangest of all-the wiring from the power plug (internal to the chassis) to the amplifier section pulled out of the Molex connector. As you can...
Just made contact with 3820 in Southern Nevada. Sounding good in SW Atlanta this morning. Sounds like the Spanish QRM is dropping out on my end.

Alexis,
I am sure the attached is not the EXACT antenna you have. But the parts diagrams in the attachment may look very familiar.
Best I could do from my phone 500 miles from home.

The element to boom mount brackets and boom to mast brackets appear to be a Hygain product to me.
I use a 3 element version on 10 & 11 meters.

It seems to me that folks nowadays are looking for instant gratification. The younger crowd have even given that idea its own acronym: TLDR.
In my opinion it is just laziness.

You were given some wrong information.
As you can see from the schematic below, the blue arrow indicates the 12.6Vac provided to one side of the relay coil and the Transmit light by the amplifiers separate but necessary power supply. The yellow arrow is the negative side of the relay coil and...
The crystal socket is provided so that you could test a crystal I believe. Not sure what reading you may see on the meter though??
Curious that the "mode switch" lists a "Sig Gen/Crystal" position??? Could be that if you are attempting to align a radio with a certain I.F. frequency, you could...
You could use a Field Strength meter I would think. I made one out of a $12.00 analog (big box store purchase) battery tester/volt meter.
It looks like this.
A couple of diodes a variable resistor and a capacitor is all there is to it (I think), Its been a few years so......
Schematics...
Time Bomb,
I went through the same exercise a few years ago (Turner +3 bad element swap) and believe I used a heat gun to allow me to carefully peal the outer ring from the "triangular" cast aluminum support using a "pocket screwdriver" and working slowly. After replacement I believe I pushed...
Eldorado828,
What board does the X9 have in it? Is there a service manual or schematics available for this radio?
I would never be brash enough to state "I'm good", that is for others to decide but can only state I am fair and honest. Since I have a 50-70 hour a week regular job, I don't do it...
unit_399,
The black faceplate is a decal from gammaraygraphics.com
He also supplied the black faceplate decal for the recent restoration of an SB-220 I did for a friend. (Chronicled on this forum)
I recently finished a 148GTL that I have been trying to refurb off and on for about 3 or 4 years...
Sounds like wiring (wrong, bad or shorted) at the Bypass/Low/High power switch.
The RF sniffer circuit provides a ground to the relay coil. The relay must be getting its positive DC voltage elsewhere. I would start back tracking from the relay coil and find the shorted component.
DO IT...
