Hi all.I got an old royce 1-632 ssb radio that I like very much but have a question to throw out if anyone has any ideas.It has relay switching and everytime you key and unkey there is a sharp pop that comes through the speaker(quite annoying).Anything I can do to quiet this?

If you want to talk skip,forget about the imax.I have one and they don't work well for dx.

These radios are famous for having bad solder joints.Turn the radio on with some kind of antenna hooked up and start pressing lightly around on the pc board(solder side).When you hit the area that has the bad joint it should kick in.Re-solder the joints in this area.

JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE EVER RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2950.WHEN TRANSMITTING,THE DISPLAY LIGHTS DIM WITH THE MODULATION AND THE AUDIO GETS GARBLED.IT ACTS LIKE IT IS STARVING FOR POWER BUT I PUT IT ON MY 20 AMP POWER SUPPLY AND IT DOES THE SAME THING.ANY CLUES?

Thank's for the info.Radio is a trc-449(858).I could just do it by ear but I don't have another sideband radio handy and even if I did it would be impossible to know if that radio is even on frequency.I'll just have to get a counter and re-allign it.Thank's again,Alex.

Can you by-pass crystal trimmers with "respectable" results? I have a rig that someone got into and twisted all the crystal trimmers out of whack.Since I don't have a frequency counter on hand I was wondering if I could just pull and by-pass the trimmers and let the crystals do their thing.I...

Sounds to me like a possible loose wire.Does it have receive audio? If it has receive audio and the pa is working then I would check the connections around the cb/pa switch.Also if this radio has one of those wire ribbons that runs to the front panel,I would check the wires on the outside edges...
