There are many amplifiers that have HD stamped on them because they will sell better that way. Very few cb amplifiers that are advertised as such can actually handle higher drive levels. The KL503 in either version is a squirrely amp.
It will cost a fortune to ship that radio to Superior cb. Two years ago I sent two Magnum radio’s out there, the work was great but from Indiana it was 74 bucks each way.
You might consider Doug at Custom cb radios, he’s in southern Indiana and does top notch work. You might even be able to...
Do what was just suggested, get a new set of HG454’s and be done. To convert over to mosfets would require most of the amp to be re-engineered. It would not be cost effective and you would end up with a crappy mosfet amp.
I have several Texas Star 250’s and one of them does the same thing. I can understand wanting to have that adjusted just a bit. Once you finished just remember to watch your pass through watts when you turn the amp off.
From what I can find the rear reflector does this. “The reflector helps minimize rear reception and interference and increases its forward gain to better receive signals in this direction. In short, an antenna with a reflector will have more gain and work better, but it will have to be aimed in...
Six prong and 5 prong?? Are talking about the mic plug as in 6 pin and 5 pin? If so you have it backwards. The Emperor is a 5 pin plug and the RCI 2950 has always been a 6. If they are different someone has monkeyed around with both radios for no reason. These radios are considered export...
If the noise is riding in on the power cord there are options that can reduce it. If it's arriving through the antenna your SOL. There are so many things in modern vehicles that create noise and electronic spikes. Fuel pump noise, alternator whine, led light package, smart phone charging...
So it has the fine and coarse clarifier control. Not sure how this radio comes stock but on many older dual clarifiers one would slide and one would be receive only. Are both controls receive only on yours?
Removing limiters is never a good idea. It does in fact turn a radio into a splatter box. You go ahead and believe what you need to so you can feel right. Any tech worth a darn can get the Ronald to sound good without cutting it up. Nuff said.
Back in the late 90's I smoked the cap in the base of two K-40 antennas. You can run up to 250-300 watts peak and be ok. What can really pop that cap fast is too much dead key wattage. Keep the dead key under say 60 watts and you should be good. I was at like 90-100 watts when that happened.
Just picked up one of these for some local MURS talking. Seems like a great little radio. First night of talking went well. Looks like it also has a GMRS mode. Even if I need to run two antennas in my attic on a switch should be fun.
