    Reclaim LSB 16

There is a GMRS radio group based in Miami that is about to launch their CB presence. Lots of the operators are also ham, but there is a push in the group to have a presence on CB because that is where they expect most radio operators to get started. The thinking is that they'll be able to...

    Reclaim LSB 16

I connected with 945 and posts here indicate that some folks even heard me. Keep in mind that my base is 100% barefoot and untweaked, so Uniden Bearcat 980 with a Workman DM 502 base mic feeding an A99 with a FS99 tip. Performance is surprisingly good when Mother Nature cooperates and folks...

A lot of extraneous noise. There was a group hogging LSB 16 earlier. More recently, there was group on AM clogging the channel up. I have heard 945 cutting through the mix a few times. Opportunities have come with different windows, but nothing too steady.

I heard the WDX station outside of Waco, TX talking to New York. WDX 128 was fading in and out. I held a QSO myself with 945. Then there is this one group on LSB 16 that was hogging the channel non-stop from before noon until well after 1:30 - when I left for lunch. There is activity, but...

    Reclaim LSB 16

I have a few friends over at NASA. Whenever we're going to get together, we do the "T minus...and counting" routine. So, for our "Reclaim LSB 16 Turkey Day Week-end" skip contest, it looks like we're T-minus 38 hours, 10 minutes and counting. Or we can just do like normal people would and...

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25th and SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26th LSB 16 NET The skip has definitely been better these last couple of months. So, as we've discussed already, let's see if the skip gods will be kind to us next week-end and give us skip conditions worthy of us giving thanks for. Let's stick to...

    Reclaim LSB 16

There was skip rolling yesterday. LSB 38 was active, but there was the usual "11111..." jerk and another idiot or two. But LSB 40, 39 and 35-37 were sharing the wealth. I dropped to LSB 16 for a while. I made a couple of solid contacts with 948 out of Ridgeway, PA. I heard him call out a...

    Reclaim LSB 16

I've had the CB on all afternoon as I did things around the house. There was plenty of skip rolling in on LSB 35-40. LSB 37 & 38 were at times unusable because of the clutter and the occasional noise maker idiot. I did hear one station calling out DX on LSB 16 a few minutes ago, but he didn't...

    Reclaim LSB 16

I actually keep a log of my 11 meter DX contacts. The DX was hopping big time on LSB 16 around this time last year. I connected clear across the country to AudioShockWave and quite a few others using less than 10 watts on SSB on my Cherokee AH-100 walkie talkie. The points made above...

How about a "DX-DAY" for forum members

I say we aim for a Turkey Day week-end DX-a-thon. I just floated the idea on the "Reclaim LSB 16" thread.

Anyone up for a Turkey Day week-end LSB 16 DX week-end? Of course, I'll have to step away for the Florida vs. Florida State game. But college football, Thanksgiving and a little DX sounds like a pretty good week-end to me.

I had my walkie talkie marine mobile set up last week-end. 38LSB was pretty backed up. The annoying thing was the number of local conversations folks were having apparently oblivious to the idea that they might be cluttering up the main call channel. I had a short QSO with 77 in London...

OCTOBER 14-15th LSB 16 NET Just a friendly reminder that we are going all out on LSB 16 this week-end. We'll follow our old protocol of starting at noon eastern time on Saturday and then aiming for every hour on the hour after that. We'll do the same on Sunday. Fall weather conditions are...

GMRS resurgence in the making ???

In my area, South Florida, GMRS is where CBers and hams looking for a more amicable radio environment are finding common ground and coming together. The South Dade GMRS club in Miami and the Conch Auxiliary Radio Emergency Services (CARES) here in the Keys have joined forces to link a Miami...

Terrible local weather conditions today. It has been pouring rain all afternoon accompanied by thunder and lightning. It was definitely time to unscrew the coax from the back of the set. I'll definitely make random shout outs between now and then, but I'm going to plan on saving my best...

I scan LSB 16, USB 40 and LSB 35-40 every so often. Conditions have not been great. I'll keep randomly scanning on occasion, but I'm definitely going to focus on making contacts the October 14-15th week-end on LSB 16. The more of us that are out there on the coordinated dates the better the...
