Totally understand, it is a personal preference. That is one of the great things about the radio hobby, there are different ways to approach it. I have an old Superstar 3900 that I modified to modulate down to 70 Hz with a few Cap swaps... it sounds a lot more natural on the air and I use it...

The problem is, on AM, most radios start to roll the Bass off around 300Hz, so everyone sounds thin. The power mic circuits do the same thing, sure it helps the operator "Punch Through The Noise", but for general local chatting, it gets quite tiresome on the ears. I have never modified a radio...

Whats the verdict on the Magnum 1?

Just as a comment... you are setting the modulation up using an O'Scope to look at the output signal... right? If So, you will see which way increases modulation. As for the Optima MK III, solid radio, been running mine for a couple years now with a Japan HM-36... SSB is dead on and gets great...

ICOM IC-718 Issue, and a Fix

agreed, However, I only run 3.3kHz wide on my 718... so I am not as wide as the guys running the Kenwoods at 6kHz. But My voice doesn't produce much above 2kHz anyway, but I can get down to 40Hz, and if I i ever did have have issues getting heard, I dump everything below 500Hz to get the DX'er...

ICOM IC-718 Issue, and a Fix

Oh, Copy all! Yeah, I am going through my ESSB Audio Rack at the moment, my tube Mic Preamp developed a 60Hz Hum, I'm thinking the filter caps are getting old... ICOM IC-718 Issue, and a Fix

Actually, I know the guy, it was below decks, and he takes care of his stuff. He actually went for the 718 on my suggestion as the Marine radios are so expensive... Besides the fact that he only charged me $200 for it, I couldn't pass it up... Agreed. This is the first hic-cup in almost 10...

    RM Italy KLV-1000/P

Well, a 1.8kHz is MUCH better receiving in the Noise for DX, I will say that... I don't have a antenna setup like I ran in Houston, all I'm running these days is a 1/4 Wave Homebrewed GroundPlane at 30' AGL for 11/10 Meters Not like the 80/40/20/10 fan Inverted-V dipole I had in Houston at a...
