    11 meter is very quiet?

Thanks Man. I'm working on it. I had no idea I had so much stuff on the shelves. I thought I had everything labeled . . . WRONG !! I found things from 25 - 30 years ago, that I will never use and have no idea why I kept them. The junk man will have a field day at my place. - J.J. 399

    11 meter is very quiet?

Getting everything back where it belongs (mostly), and put my station on-the-air for the 1st time in a while. Talked with 44 in Des Moines IO, and 747 in Ontario. Both on 37 lower. Then just copied the mail while I kept arranging my shop/shack. Still a long way to go. Slow, but sure. J.J. 399

    Alpha Delta Transi-Trap Surge Protector

I came across this site several years ago, and always use it as a reference when grounding equipment around my station. I think some things this guy proposes are overkill. But. . . too much grounding can't be a bad thing. ( I guess). https://www.w8ji.com/station_ground.htm - J.J. 399

    Anybody use switching power supplies?

GregT - Do you run your two S700- 12s at 14.2 vdc in parallel ?? Mega Watt recommends 13.9 max when running in parallel. Does operating at 14.2vdc seem to work OK ?? If so, I will boost my voltage a bit - J.J. 399

    Anybody use switching power supplies?

I use MEGA-WATT S-700-12 supplies to power my TX600 amp. Four in parallel @13.9vdc. provides 200 amps. Amplifier does 800W peak and the supply doesn't drop a tenth of a volt under load. Also use a 1 Farad capacitor as a current sink. Absolutely no hash or other supply noise. Fans are quiet...

    RCI-2995 DX HP Factory Error

Good idea sp5it, but I think a better solution is to use BERQUIST Type 800 insulating material. It utilizes double-sided adhesive and requires no attaching hardware or heat sink compound. Adhesive gets stronger when heated. I use it on all my devices that need insulators, and never had one come...

    Kenwood TS-430S repair

When I get the mess in my shack/shop lined out, I'm going to setup my TS-430S with my new 8-pill amp. My trusty 139XLR is going on the bench for some significant mods. I had an authorized tech in Bogota look at my 430, and now, on my scope, spec analyzer, meters it's looking good. I read...

Galaxy Saturn growling noise from echo board

I would try operating the radio without it's on-board power supply. Leave the unit unplugged, the power switch OFF, and connect a good 13.8 VDC supply to the Red (+) wire going from the on/off switch to point # 22 on the main board, and the (-) supply wire to a suitable ground point. If the...

Vintage SSB Base CBs vs New

Only one new 2547 on Ebay close to $400: $466 w/shipping . I don't call that "lots." Cheapest used one was $349 w/ ship, and it was pretty beat. - J.J.399

Vintage SSB Base CBs vs New

Replacing the caps on a quality old-school radio (Cobra 139XLR, 142GTL, President Washington, Madison, etc.,) is no big deal. And you'll end up with a base radio that will talk and receive with the best of them. There isn't much to choose from in new CB base radios these days. Forking out $400...

    11 meter is very quiet?

It was thunderstorming all day, but finally had a break around 5:30 PM. Crossed my fingers and turned everything on. No smoke, and when I spoke into the mike, the wattmeter reading seemed normal. Called CQ, and got several stations coming back to me. But then the rain started again and I shut...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Check out page #581, Post #8712. Pretty much tells the whole sad story. Seemed like a flood when I got into the shack. But I got all the gear dried out, and so far everything survived. Gonna see if the 139 will fire up tomorrow morning. - J.J. 399

    11 meter is very quiet?

Murphy"s law strikes again. DX is booming, and I'm still wringing the water out of my equipment. Gonna give my station a test run tomorrow morning, so we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed. - J.J. 399

    11 meter is very quiet?

About 1 AM I was snapped awake by a loud crashing noise. Got up and checked outside. It was raining HARD with much lightning, thunder, and very high wind. The crashing noise was our granddaughter's play house being blown away. Got up this morning and found this. The wind also took most of...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Conditions here were;'t anything to write home about. US stations (except Cali) were pretty much in the mud. But Cali was dialed in to Europe, and couldn't hear me. About 10 AM, I taked to "Pete" in Northern Ireland. Then dead air until 3:30 PM when 472 on the German side of the border with...

    11 meter is very quiet?

It must have been the conditions. 1st thing I did was look at my SWR. 1.2 - 1..3 the entire time. My AC and DC voltage monitors were rock steady. Put the Cobra on the bench last night and it checked 100%. I guess Mother Nature does some strange things sometimes. - J.J.
