    What's your favorite pepper sauce?

Cholula Green Pepper Sauce got it for first time today (two thumbs up). Jalapeno is says on the bottle. Sure enuf great jalapeño flavor. The other Cholula I've got at hand is a Garlic and unspecified peppers. A unremarkably mild flavor. I guess I'm looking for distinctness. Like habanero or...

Thinking about making my first experimental Di-Pole for my garage. ( Got Questions )

Your basic bug-out pocket dipole. These 4 windings, pictured, wud not be my choice. Can't find the table demonstrating frequency, windings and SWR. Best I recall, for 10/11M, 10 resulted in a reading of 1.2:1 and 14 windings resulted in better than 1:1; don't know how that works, maybe...

Thinking about making my first experimental Di-Pole for my garage. ( Got Questions )

Whiteastro, I'd like to chime with the succinct answer. It's magic! A 18' MOL radiating element, a monopole, is a 1/2λ antenna; but, a 9' radiating element on a dipole is also a 1/2λ antenna. The monopole is half an antenna but the dipole is a whole antenna. I'm telling ya, it's magic ;)...

Thinking about making my first experimental Di-Pole for my garage. ( Got Questions )

Perhaps the 12AWG "magnet" wire is hardr-bendum :) copper, same with 14AWG mag. wire. Fingers hurt trying to bend it. 16AWG Remington magnet wire was bendable. With the right tools, instead of fingers, Romex 12AWG is bendable to properly wind a Toroid? Lacquer coating shield on magnet wire...

Who are you on the air?

I've heard ya, Triple 3s. AL 45-70 on DX 38SSB. I seldom talk. Seems DXland is all about the numbers. picked by 2nd fav rifle cartridge. AL Buckeye here and local 31 AM. As to Yard Dogs, I once were such; gave it up when Triumph Rocket III, bagger, became too heavy to lift from prone; back...

    Favorite fiberglass antenna?

I wish I'd gotten several Imax 2000 when they were as cheap as my 1st. I'm ignorant of any other fiber glass antennas other than A99 and Imax 2000? I'd long believed the 5/8λ was the better of the two. Most recently I'd read, on the all truthful internet, the 5/8λ is short range challenged...

What's your primary mode of operation?

But "both" what? Wife yells in AM and dog barks on SSB. Relaxed! That's my preferred mode. Unless I'm engrossed in an action film and Director switches to 10 minutes total blackout action filming; or, a supposed professional returns my equipment worse off than on receipt. Or...; but, I...

    Imax 2000 GPK 103

Attached image is Imax 2000 with GPK 103. GPK 103 is a home-brew using the orig. GPK mounting bracket and 4x 102" SS antenna radial, with adapters. The once Fugly Balun now upgraded to Black Tie formal wear. 12 windings of RG58 on FT240-43 is housed in ABS casing. FT240-43 is mounted...

leave it up or take it down

There was one other scary occasion. History was nearly written; the first WC-130 lost in a storm. When surface winds cannot be estimated at normal flight level due to cloud coverage below it was allowable to descend to as low as 700'MSL. At such low levels my job was more or less limited to...

leave it up or take it down

It's not that scary from the inside looking out and not nearly as rough as you might think. Roughest was when shaking the hung up landing gear out of the wheel wells. Scariest was crabbing in on landing, with two engines out on one side with near 30kt crosswind gusts. >2700 flt hrs over my...

    Canada approved FM for CB

A bit off topic as it relates to radio https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/pineapple-express.html you'll know I refrain from straying, the term "Pineapple Express", in my area of expertise, came back to mind. Again I'm caught in my undawares. https://3fs.net.au/tropospheric-ducting/ Speaking...

    Canada approved FM for CB

Perhaps there are a few more as ignorant as I as to AM/FM radio and it's difference with "AM/FM modulation". As it applies to FM modulation doesn't have the limitations of FM radio? Those respondents having success with 10M, 6M and DX connectivity may it also be assumed for other bands, such as...

https://windupradio.com/difference-between-am-and-fm-radio/ "Because FM waves don’t reflect off the ionosphere well, they cannot travel very far. For good Frequency Modulation broadcasting, the station must be placed at the highest point or on high masts to enhance coverage." Well that pretty...

    Canada approved FM for CB

When AM channels are busier than a one-armed paper hanger you'd think there is motivation enough to switch to FM? What was the root motivating cause for the spread of CB radio use? There is a lack of Advertising, there. What are "active" FM channels?

How many radios do you run?

Awh crap, wack my pee pee, RTFM! Does RTFM mean RTFQ; "Staff Member"? Q: How many radios do you run? A: 5 I beg your pardon for my expounded upon response. Curios I am; how many egg rolls does near 17K posts equate to.

Different Look At 102" Whip Discussion

The "braided" linkage from base of spring to antenna attachment, I've as many as 6 or 7 springs; 2-3 fat whoppers and 4x 4" inches. Granted I've poor eyesight; but, I've personally never seen a one. I expect there may be the potential for a weak link in the more recent renditions. Crappy...

Different Look At 102" Whip Discussion

I knew I'd gotten the 103" radials, below my Imax 2000, from somewhere: http://www.csgnetwork.com/antennagpcalc.html I substituted the original GPK 6' FG radials for SS 102" whips + adapters. Likely to the chagrin of others the ground plane placement of my antenna is based at the absolute...
