    11 meter is very quiet?

Was that 429? If so that's wild because I talked to the same guy this morning! Had a couple other contacts out that way too, then conditions shifted and southern California came in strong for a while......

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

Something is very wrong ! 3.2A at 14 volts is only 44.8 watts total. Assuming about 70% efficiency that's only 31 watts making it out the antenna, which is only half what it should be doing. AM Power draw is close to what it should be, so it does seem that whatever is causing the problem is in...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Yes, there has been several major flares and solar storms lately, including a big flare last evening...... For the last couple weeks we have been having pretty much the same conditions every day.... sporadic short E-skip to the Western states and provinces that comes and goes all day...

Hit the Jackpot on Facebook Marketplace

That's a good haul of stuff !! All REALLY old gear though....... I bet there's not a single radio in that pile that doesn't at least need a good cleaning and a recapping. If it were I, I would keep the JCP 6247, the SBE Console V, the CDE controls, a couple of the Turner mics, and the coax...

    Earthquakes

Or Alaska...... They get some really big earthquakes up there, including the famous 9.2 magnitude one in 1964. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_Alaska_earthquake

    Earthquakes

Is there a lot of fracking for oil going on out there ? In our neighbouring province of Alberta many small earthquakes have been linked to the practice of fracking, which is when high temperature/pressure liquids are pumped deep into the ground to release oil and gas. The liquids can separate...

    Anytone At-6666 Pro

I'm not surprised. It seems some people have a strong desire to be first online with the "secret information" about the service menu. Misinformation and all ! I see bricked radios in some peoples immediate future............ If this Anytone is like the others there is no real reason to go into...

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

I noticed that too. If it is indeed cracked, it needs to be replaced, and may well be the cause of the problem.......... I've seen those fail with a loud bang more than once before....from too much input voltage. OP are you using a good meter to read that 13.8VDC ? Some meters read falsely...

    HANGING A DIPOLE VERTICALLY

Yes, common mode currents. Think of them as radio signal that didn't get transmitted properly due to a bad antenna match or other factors. Those signals then travel back down the outside of your coax back into your radio room, where they manifest as mic squeals, hums, distortion, or unwanted...

CB w/amp bleads through truck speakers when the truck is running

It's because the speaker wires are unshielded and are acting as a crude antenna picking up the amplified RF from the linear. Bypass caps at the speaker terminals will help and maybe even eliminate the problem. edit to add: You could also try chokes on the speaker leads.

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

Pretty sure you won't be needing that to fix an Anytone radio LOL!

    HANGING A DIPOLE VERTICALLY

In theory this is true, but in actual practice the coax does radiate a bit and is also prone to carrying CMC's with these types of antennas. The A-99 groundplane kit, while it does nothing to help receive or transmit, DOES help A LOT with cancelling out CMC's that would otherwise travel down...

What effective DSP units with or without speakers are available out there

West Mountain Radio CLRSpeaker is highly recommended by many.... https://www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=clr_spkr

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

It doesn't sound like a super serious problem. Something is either dragging down your power (ie: a short somewhere), or something is preventing enough power from reaching some (or all) of the radio. Could be a protection diode, defective switch, faulty electrolytic cap, burned trace, bad...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Feeling a little racist today are we ?

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

LOL! Radios are built to spec. Any modification done after that is taking it out of spec. It isn't rocket science...........

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the fact that it was modded. Mine is bone stock and is still working perfectly. "fixing up the modulation" etc. implies the radio is now operating outside it's design tolerances, one of the consequences of which can be a radio which dies long before its time...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Conditions up here have been worse than bad for a couple weeks now. It's OK.....I was away for a while, now I'm home enjoying the sun, the beach, biking, boating etc. etc. After all, it is summer time, the weather is warm and sunny, and the dark dingy shop where the radios live just isn't very...

    headphones on a quad 5

It's not a problem. Both external speakers and headphones operate at 8 ohms impedence..... Just make sure the volume is low before you jack in the 'phones (you don't want to damage your hearing!) If the jack on the radio is wired mono you may only get audio out of one side of the headphones...

    AT-5555N2 audio boost

No they don't. They did way back in the 1960's and 1970's, but not any more. I know, I work in FM broadcast radio ! FM stations use multi-band processors to enhance sound quality and that doesn't involve echo or reverb. Only places where reverb on FM radio is still used are Mexico, Peru, and...
