    ANYTONE AT-5555N2 receive noise work-around

Thank you for the data! 100% agree. IMHO, it is an S meter calibration issue. Your data further proves the point. Your 2 Q5N2's have 158 & 167 respectively for ULRS1; mine is 345. Your AFRS1 = 387 & 489; mine is 609. I consider mine to have a high noise floor. The change came somewhere in...

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

@Pez - the one setting above S9 is confusing to me. The meter reads s9+20, S9+40, and S9+60. The setting is labeled "S12" (AFRS12 & ULRS12) which equals S9+18 dBm which is less than the +20 mark on the meter. Seems like you would actually want to calibrate on a meter mark not somewhere in...

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

This was posted in another thread but needs to be posted here. This is regarding the high Noise floor on later runs of the Q5N2 that users as far back as 1/2023 started experiencing. I think this is the reason/solution but I need more "default SM settings" specifically for the S Meter...

    ANYTONE AT-5555N2 receive noise work-around

I realize each radio is unique and the numbers will change from one radio to the next. But the numbers will be within a "range". I only have 1 set of data (Oct 2022) to use (that's why I need more data sets of earlier Q5N2's. I attached a small spreadsheet that will show what I am looking at...

    ANYTONE AT-5555N2 receive noise work-around

Not to hijack this thread, but I think I know what the issue is with the later Q5N2 radios being "noisy" on RX. But I need some more data, especially from Q5N2's that were built before 11/2022. @Pez - I know you were one of the members who first received a Q5N2 and you have mentioned that your...

Please help your fellow skip shooter

CMC - Common Mode Current Like Unit_399 said, chances are the input impedance of your beam is further away from 50 ohms than your ground plane. With the power you are running, you will need a CMC choke, line isolator, 1:1 current balun, (whatever you want to call it). An easy one to make that...

Please help your fellow skip shooter

"Just a thought: Maybe it's a CMC current thing with the big amp. Possibly winding and putting a coax choke at the base of the antenna will help. Won't hurt." +1

    Sams PhotoFacts Collection

I am trying to create a corrected SAMS CB index. Besides the early washington (858) being in vol 128 and not 118, is any one else aware of "booboo's" in the CBCI CB index?

How about a liquid cooled heatsink

This would certainly work for a solid state base amp. I put it together 13 years ago for my PC then. The concept is what is important. No fans, no radiators, no heat, no internal noise, no condensation. Variable temp sub-ambient cooling so you can keep it just above the dew point. Just need a...

Please help your fellow skip shooter

Lucky for you, they still sell a MQ HG 2SC2879 16D08 set. For $128, you can repair the amp your self. Just unsolder the old transistors and pop in the same exact new ones...

Which member was building that amp?

    No. Partnership fell apart.

    DAVE MADE M400

You said you run AM, but does the box have a SSB option? If so or even if not so, the bias maybe class "B" which is more linear for SSB use but less efficient, which means you aren't going to get as much out of it as a class C biased box. Chances are the boxes on Youtube are class C.

It is his responsibility. Having said that, try explaining the situation and maybe offer to chip in to help replace them. Keep peace with the neighbor and get rid of those RFI hash generators. Your receive will thank you.

Unsolved Mysteries in the CB Industry

One of the CB mysteries for me is why Qixiang doesn't build more SSB CB's. They make all kinds of 10M radios with SSB. Anytone has a crap load of AM and AM/FM CB's, but none with SSB. Maybe not enough margin.

    AT-5555N II

@Dallas Starr - Is this the Q5N2 that had a high noise level on RX that you made several earlier posts about? If so, it seems for you and others that have purchased a Q5N2 recently, that unfortunately, something has been changed. The vast majority of the older/earlier Q5N2's rarely exhibited...

    Uniden Madison - Why?

You can "stagger" tune the inductors for 40 & 85 or you can peak & tune for 27.625 which is halfway between 40 & 85.

    Uniden Madison - Why?

L21 is the Tripler. Adjust it to get even performance on 40 & 85. L19 And L20 on the VCO can be tweaked too. You are probably going to lose performance on the lower channels.
