You are correct I wasn't referring to the receivers since they are both excellent I was referring to the dirty transmitter of the Icom 7000 right out of the box. In the right hands it does have lots of potential but I'm not into Splatter boxes and I really don't enjoy having to run a low pass...
The stock Mic should sound virtually indistinguishable from a Heil PR781. If it sounds bad, it's time to find a new technician or plug in an Astatic 575m6 and crank up the treble so the low end distortion isn't heard.

You are partially correct. A textbook tech following a service manual won't get you anywhere close. My AT-6666 easily outperforms an Icom 7000 on 11 meters.

Thanks for the opinion. Facts outweigh opinions at least in the real world. In my world, identical components yield slightly different results in identical radios due to inconsistencies in their factory installed components...
Knowing which parts to change is half the battle. Any clueless parts changer can swap parts without understanding why. Now to get a variable cap and variable pot to find the precise values.
