Easy @BJ radionut wattmeter picture was PEP on SSB with max recommended drive per manual. I was just testing the tube out. I THINK it's an Eimac from the design but I didn't see the printing on it. (Didnt pull it out as it survived shipment installed and packed in place I didnt want to pull it...
Nice box Glad you didnt get the earlier sn! Yes, I'd read that article previously. But I didn't see anything on the AL80A eating transformers so @nomadradio scared me given the SB1000 seems to be a clone of AL80A.
To be fair, THAT computer visible is my wifes.
All my comps are in my office. I share desk space with her for the radios.
That monitor thats on is purely stand alone running off the radio. No PC required.
Talked with Florida and Connecticut no problem earlier extended QSO but was cheating with the little hammer and beam. Just swung around and talked to a bunch of CA stations including mobiles but gotta get back to work lol
1 tube. 2 x 3-500z was just too far out of my comfort zone price and potential bleed over as well I didnt want to run 220. But I'm impressed with the single.
No. I think you'll be fine with that pairing.
I loved that old K40. Great ears and the twist remove was perfect for carwashes and avoiding theft.
I seem to remember I lost a little on the ears going to the Wilson.
Talked to 2510 Honolulu Hawaii (my old hometown) right through CA stations clamoring at him all the way from TX. I was working late so missed most the DX but the new 3-500z box was putting in work! This weekend should be fun! Maybe I will finally make it to some of you.

Rated for 500 PEP according to this article though as I said a 4 pill did mine in and I doubt I was doing 500 watts but it was a long time ago.
I seem to remember I was fine at 200 pep watts w the k40 but when I put a 4 pill inline kaboom. I smoked the K4O.
I also replaced it with a Wilson 1000.
Still have it in the garage somewhere.
I think that K40 will be fine as long as you're easy on her.
Of course that is SSB not AM and the FT-710 only has 25 watts on AM vs 100 on SSB and that is PEP but that fat old tube is beastly. People instantly come back and compliment the audio quality and punch. Guess this may be a good mashup after all of old and new tech!
The sticker is for the benefit...
I dunno I'm cornfuzzled lol. But good news the old school AL80A survived and arrived today though may be an older tube or my lil Yaseu isn't enough hitting it, it does about 450ish on a PEP digital meter. No LDMOS but hope she works out. People INSTANTLY commented on the audio while I was trying...
