Kenwood MC-85 mic to Cobra 2000gtl

First, welcome, 2nd, This should help..... 3rd, if you want all the functions, you're going to have to add a few wires and jumpers in the radio. Best I can do there is provide schematics.

Taking bets on where Fine Tune pops up next

Mark Sherman is The David Koresh of the Stryker community. "I am the prophet of Stryker, you cannot be cleaner and meaner without paying tribute to ME. All others use hocus-pocus to deceive you for I alone hold the scripts of calibration. Humble yourself in my presence, now go spread my word...

Taking bets on where Fine Tune pops up next

The only idiots are the ones who believe him to be some type of superstar tech. He searches out those with low self-esteem willing to be dehumanized by someone with a superiority complex because they want to feel like they belong to an elite group that only the best belong to, when in actuality...

Don't own one of those....but you don't wait 2+ years to get one either. Plus there are major players in the CB/amp world who use and swear by his work....what does Mark have other than a piss poor attitude and delivery time?

But.....I do see it from his POV as well, I'd hate to admit that I was duped and swindled out of 900 dollars so I'd probably defend the man too in hopes I was right, until that horrifying moment in time that all the comments and warnings hit me dead in the face as facts.

He's probably "on the phone" with him right now asking how he should reply to these comments as his canned responses don't work here.

900 dollars for a radio that 98+% of people will not be able to tell the difference between it and a nicely done 29ltd classic... Except for the bragging rights of saying that you spent 900 dollars on a radio where the mods were done by an egomaniac who uses aggression and arrogance to dissuade...

If you're a tech, with the same equipment, and think so highly of your abilities that you will turn down/undo work simply because you do not like an individuals attitude, why are you not performing the mods yourself?

Clones.... every time Mark rubs one out, a new little spawn crawls out of the sock.

    How much carrier output?

20 volts on the 2 pill section, 15 on the 1 pill. Now...it was dirty...VERY dirty, I was killing 5 up and five down and anything with an antenna in a 2 mile radius. But the Toshibas held together for a couple of years like that. Admittedly, after the 6 volt battery died and I went back to 14-15...

    How much carrier output?

You can run them like that but the lifespan is cut by more than half and you're running so close to the edge that if you had a momentary SWR spike it'd more than likely kill the box. You can run just about anything harder than spec but you better understand every aspect of your system or you'll...

    How much carrier output?

Yes sir. For years I ran 1 pill 2879 box (90 PEP) into 2 pill 2879 box (100 PEP dead key and 500+ PEP out) with no issue, so even them saying 10 PEP in doesn't mean it's going to explode into dust if you exceed it. Toshibas were so underrated on the data sheet it's ridiculous.

    How much carrier output?

Data sheets are the suggested/recommended. The manufacture recommends an oil change every 5K miles, yet people will go 8K or more with no issues. Toshibas were built beautifully which allowed them to be pushed well beyond the spec sheet and survive. For longevity, the data sheet for the Toshibas...

His setup sounds good, to me. That said, I'll talk through two rusty soup can connected by weed wacker line before I'd feed his ego and buy his work. If you have to trash others to make yourself look better, you're not near as good as you think you are.

    How much carrier output?

25 watt per transistor in the final stage. 1X4 = 100 max 2X4 = 100 max. The 25 per is the result of many a blown transistor and lifespan at different drive levels. Most every builder that has used Toshibas in builds found out the expensive way. One has gone as far as to run them at X watts...
