Here is some information on the "ugly balun". Basically just the coax coiled up a certain way will choke out the common mode current that gets reflected from the antenna to the coax outer braid. Five turns of coax in a four inch diameter should do it. Thread 'The "Ugly Balun"'...

Unfortunately the short radio is still too long. The knobs stuck up about 1/2 inch above the rim. Some shorter knobs might work, but I chose to use a heat sink from an Ares 2 that got an RFX95.

I just got my new QT60Pro and replaced the 6666 with it. The noise reduction on these new radios is a game changer for sure.

I put the 6Pro in my truck in place of the 86v with RFX95. The noise reduction feature is super nice on the receiver and the radio is narrow enough to not interfere with the sun visors. I believe this is still the smallest mobile with SSB.

The N2 has a "neat" feature with the channel frequency. If you are in channel mode and change to frequency, when you adjust by frequency and then change back to channel mode, it remembers the new frequency to your channel. Your two channels might be the same frequency. Check each channel...

AMPL should adjust the power level when the knob is turned all the way down. I believe it adjusts the carrier as well as peak output.

I found this a while back, I am not sure where I got it. It is probably based on the earliest version 6666 so it may not apply to a more recent radio. The 6666Pro is completely different though. Use at your own risk.

I believe they have a set screw in the hole that holds the elements.
