It will be easier for you just to program in the 5khz steps from the computer.
There are a bunch of band space in 25 and 26mhz that can be utilized for 5khz steps in the freeband from 27.405 thru 27.700 or whatever.

You have to be careful using amplifiers with Switch Mode Power supplies on SSB.
Switch modes work well with constant current drain but when the drain is rapidly changing like with the voice peaks on SSB some supplies eventually break down.

The At-5555N II does not have the noise compander option in the menu. The above post is primarily for the AT-5555 Plus /N. It seems to enhance the receive audio a bit on SSB. So far I must say it doesn't make that much difference. Maybe on AM or FM?
