32 is about the max mic gain on SSB before it gets a bit hairy on sideband. These are great little radios. Hard to beat at the price point and those with ver 3 firmware go down to 24.8 mhz with a couple of extra bands. My 2 are both version 2 unfortunately.
I found the stock mic was a bit hot at full but 32 was right on the limit for my voice.
30 to 32 and you won't go wrong and hopefully no pffs in the audio.
Thats a shame. I tried one for a while and thought it was a pretty good amp.
500 would be max output but it never got hot. Must be hard to keep 16 of those little power mosfets balanced. Describe the POOF please. What happened? On the plus side it shouldn't cost much to replace a bunch of the...
To gain the advantages of the End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antenna the antenna must be a resonant half wave or multiple there of and fed with a 49:1 or similar. The End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antenna has about 2,500 ohms impedance at the feed point. If you are using some other matching device such as...
Hi Homer,
I have experimented with many EFHW set ups.
As your radio starts shutting down at 1.3 swr it might not be the right radio to use with an EFHW. I use the EFHW so I don't need to use a tuner.
If you just want one band then hook up the wire to the transformer and adjust the wire for the...
11m is propagating again.
I am interested!
What about the Sirio gainmaster?
The sigma IV designs seem to have more metal in the air so should work better, but the extra metal is their downfall in heavy winds.
The Grant 2 and Mckinley's are made in Vietnam
The Lincoln 2 is made in China by Qixiang.
Just cut a wire and move a jumper to expand the Grant 2 from memory.
Odd president would bring out a George 2 in similar format to the Grant 2 when one would consider it cheaper just to keep rolling out the...
The 703 is a well built amp and the power transistors are cheap if you do blow it up.
Its the biggest of the lot.
If it will fit in your car and suits your budget, then that's the one to get.
The mic socket on the G90 is icom compatible so lots of options.
Its got a solid 20w out, an inbuilt antenna tuner, split front panel, a panadapter that works and easily converted for "MARS" operation.
Good work in sorting that out.
How on earth did it leave the factory like that?
Some of them have a factory reset that should put all the parameters back to original spec. There may be some other values that need adjusting.
On the plus side it is nice to be able to tailor the sideband pass band...
Does it exhibit the same characteristic if you are in one of the Ham bands? Say 28.5mhz? Also make sure you don't have the "Split" function engaged.
Looks like a nice little SDR for sure.
I did see something about that on the net and also using a variable capacitor across the input. I tend to add or remove turns when tuning for lowest SWR in a single band EFHW.
I have used the following criteria when using end fed antennas.
Please take into account that anything conductive nearby...
