    Dx500 vs DX1600

Any twin final export radio drives a TS 500 rather nicely. 40w is more than enough! Need a fan cos it does get hot at those levels, and a stout PSU. Will use all of 50A.

The beauty of radios like the G90 is their portability. The 20w output seems more than sufficient with just a resonant inverted V as long as you choose the location. And the portability means you can find the spot that just makes it all happen. For me it is the ocean. In fact a cliff above the...

I think the original DC lead is sufficient but seems light due to single wires. If it was a joined wire with slightly thicker insulation it probably be more acceptable. Just odd they made the case so bloody heavy and went light on the DC. I wouldn't be surprised if you could drive a car over...

    Dx500 vs DX1600

None of my dx500's did 500w out for 20w in on SSB. More like 500w out for 50w in.

Looks Funky for sure. Not at all what I had in mind. Thinking of a stick on bail to raise front that would fold down against radio to pack. I won't be ordering!

I did something Similar using a plastic 'stick on' wall hanger. Radio still fits in the box but I have to put it in upside down. It has the advantage in that it can be 'hung' in a somewhat vertical position if something suitable available. Interested to get the details on the bail you bought...

Exactly, and you got back with 20W? That is the wonder of this little radio. It can work those weak signals.

I just filled the back of the microphone with hi density foam to see if it reduces the bassy-ness of the SSB tx audio. Some "in radio" means of adjusting the TX audio would be useful as the compressor doesn't seem to be doing much. I have had to reduce the mic gain to 12 for my voice so maybe...

20w but have not used it other than check the carrier. I have no doubt it has backward swing and the carrier should be set about 8w and swinging up to 20. If it can do 20w carrier we should be able to see 40 or 50w on SSB one would think...

There might be a work around to operate the G90 out of band without cutting the diode. It is a bit clunky and have not had much time to examine it further. I was not aware that I had the G90 in split mode and was wondering why the swr was off the scale on 40m. Got a phone call. 'Stop...

From ZL2 last night with the G90 on 40m, Portable, LiPO battery, a resonant 40m inverted V, Just the radio; I was able to work stations in Europe. Holland. Germany. It seems to tune just about anything but the radiated power decreases as more power gets wasted (lost in tuner) tuning a non resonant antenna. I have had a great time on 40m with an resonant inverted V. 15w will get you round the world on 40m if conditions are right.

Not quite that straight forward as the DC plug is embeded into the chassis and the Tamyia type plug is not that easy to source.

Am doesn't seem to be its strong point, but then I am not much of an AM user at best. I am surprised at the lack of SW AM stations this thing picks up. Matbe they just aint about anymore for all I know.

Don't worry about the mic for now either! It is handy to have some controls off the radio as the buttons take a bit of getting used to. The radio takes a bit of getting used to. Once you feel familiar with everything after a day or so then make changes. I have a few in mind; remove the mars...

    best recieving 10 meter radio

Leave 1.6 in place for a while as you get used to the radio. The last thing you want is upgrade issues if you don't get it right. 1.7 doesn't offer any significant improvements. The upgrade path is a little tricky.

I know this is an Amateur set but posting here for the benefit of those, like me that are stuck on CB! The best 10m radio out there (as well as 12,15, 18, 20, 40 and 80 et al) Still working my way thru the radio. With the make shift antennas I have here in NZ it works very well. How it copes...

    best recieving 10 meter radio

Still working my way thru the radio. With the make shift antennas I have here in NZ it works very well. How it copes with the 5el beam at 120ft is another question. RF gain is an attenuator, pre amp or nothing but it works OK. DNR I have yet to see. The receive on the ham bands is the...
