I suppose 1st step will be to fab up some new short jumpers. Then open her up for a look see. If SWR stays low do I still need to change the caps and relays?
Thanks for the comeback folks ..... heres the latest.
I'm pretty dumb about some of this .......... by full carrier do mean carrier with modulation? If so . not yet.

Bench tested the 3' RG8U jumper and found no issues...
Hello again all. I realize I may be posting in the wrong section as I am a CBer but I don't see a section for CB amps and the Palomar is a Base amp. I'm looking for comments and advice on a Palomar 200X that I acquired a few years back but am just attempting to putting in line. I'm very new to...
Thx for the input.
I have a 4 to 6 pin adapter but the Pace wiring scheme is not same as other standards such as Cobra. After a bit of research and tracing out the wiring I did manage to figure it out and get it working and verified Tx, however, the gain control doesn't seem to function.
To maintain structural integrity keeping a sufficient amount of the lowest vertical radiator inside the BA1P base unit, I made initial adjustments at the bottom of the lowest radiator and secondary adjustment at the bottom of the second radiator and final minor adjustment at the hoop ring.
I...
Thanks for the welcome. I'm amazed at the level of knowledge exhibited by some of the folks here. Great reading, much of it completely over my head, but I am catching on.
Took the V58 down and rechecked / reset everything to mfg spec and put in an RF choke of 5 wraps about 6" down from the...
Very much a newbie to the hobby and have no idea? I tried to do some research to establish a means of discovery and found none. Believe I have a basic understanding of the meaning of "resonance" but not a way to test for it. ??
Thanks for the informative and precise answers, always seeking to learn more and understand the theory. More reading on SWR gave more insight for need of lower SWR and reduced reflection on the coax ground sleeve.
Could you please explain the 18' above ground? The tech sheet from Maco states...
I have three Mics that came with a Pace 1000B radio, the mics all tested good on the Pace but it moved on to another home.
The Mics are:
1. American Electronics lollipop power mic similar to a D104.
2. A Midland handheld
3. The original Pace handheld
I would like to rewire (at minimum) the...
Finally got the Maco up and temp coax run. Set up for tuning is antenna 10' off the ground, 18' RG8X to an Astatic SWR Meter, 100' RG8X from Meter to Uniden 880.
Initial check at radio showed 1.12 on Ch 40 and 1.76 on Ch 1 using the Uniden on-board SWR calibration.
Initial check outside at the...
M0GVZ .......... thanks much for the comeback and clarity, truly appreciated.
Don't have access to an analyzer other than my SWR meter so will have to muddle along with that.
I'll be running a commercial grade copper line (from electric service transmission / distribution poles) (believe it...
Thx for the response.
I will be using an Astatic SWR meter and was curious about my presence affecting the SWR while observing the meter. I was planning to have SO key the mic as I adjusted set point and observed the reflected reading, your response tells me that isn't the best plan. So I...
Thanks for the input folks and for the links. I am familiar with SWR meaning and need for proper tuning and do own an SWR meter. Have been doing a bit of reading on the subject matter and have found contradicting info on coax length requirement, hence the question for clarity from the group...
Just getting into the hobby with purchase of a Uniden 880 for mobile and a Uniden 980SSB for the base. Purchased the Maco on recommendation of longtime friend and Ham. I have the Maco assembled and ready for test n tune at approx 8' above earth at a location approx 25' from the house and will be...
Hello all ......... I have three Mics that came with a Pace 1000B radio I picked up at auction quite a while back. The mics all tested good on the Pace but unfortunately the Pace needed more work that it was worth to me and it moved on to another home.
The Mics are 1. American Electronics...
Why shouldn't it be 1.4? From what I've read that would actually be a fair SWR for a 5' Vertical GP Mag mount?
Discovered a bad connection at the PL259 on antenna coax. Clipped and replaced got me a 1.68 on Ch1 and 1.64 on Ch40 from Tx on the 880. Oddly it still fails on the 980. Beginning...
Recently acquired a used Uniden 880 and a Uniden 980SSB. 880 came with a mag mount 52" stainless whip that reads over 3 SWR through an Astatic PDC2 meter using a 2' jumper of RG8 from the TX on both radios.
Purchased a used Wilson Silverload and mounted to the mag mount which at initial install...
I ordered 100' of RG8X which arrived yesterday, Maco V58 comes tomorrow. Waiting on an order of PL259s to arrive as well. Been spending alot of time expanding my chicken yard and not much time figuring how to get my tower up but will happen in the not too distant future.,
New problem will be...
Absolutely will, certainly don't wanna climb that tower. Thanks for the reminder. Gonna be a while till that is needed. Don't have tower up and may be a bit before I can.
Earlier post I mentioned 2" sch 40 pipe as temporary mast ........... that ain't gonna happen .... too heavy .... I could...
