Well the “ new tube” was bad too. Popped another electrolytic capacitor. This ones getting a 350V MOV and a 1/4 W 47ohm resistor going to screen. I will do like you said and put a 1A fuse inline with transformer. This amp has all the old original boards. Might be calling Chris for new boards...
I have one here, not that bad though. Guy put in a “new” tube. Lol. Sure had a lot of wear on it for new. I think RF Parts still has some of those transformers available.
i really like the idea of kinda what Henry did and just put the chimney/ sleeve at top of tube and extend it to top cover. Then you can put more holes on deck to pump more air into anode section. Even holes under vacuum variable capacitors. This allows more airflow through the anode cooler...
543 checkout a 6dky9 Dayton blower. Look at back pressure specs. Just because it’s big doesn’t mean a whole lot. I’ve seen some 200+ CFM fail miserable at 0.5 or 1” back pressure.
543, I believe you are referring to a safety choke. Yes every amp should have one.
As to meters. Yes a grid meter is nice. Problem is I’ve seen a lot of guys with boxes don’t understand meters. They understand volt meter. Some understand plate current meter ( cathode current if using CT of...
I have a bunch of old sockets out of Harris transmitter. They used 1/4W or 1/2w 47ohm I believe on 250B type. I’d have to dig out. Lol, somewhere. Depending on screen voltage, I learned a 5K ohm 40W works good on screen. But it does pull a lot of current. Usually around 65mA ish. Works nicely...
Not all bad though. Since he posted up soldering LDMOS to copper heater spreader. I did research and did some of my own. Way better than using 2 screws to secure flange.
The one he put up was brand new. He assembled. Then put a $3,000 price tag on it. He did use new electrolytic capacitors as the originals are 40 years old.
I will mention recently, he put up a Heathkit SB220 up for sale. Starting bid was $3000. He built it from kit. Brand new amp. He did upgrade the cap bank. I don’t know if anyone bought it. Sadly I don’t think it will last long with what he recommends ppl drive it with. I’ve lost count on...
