Lol, Tokin do you remember the 10K videos on mauldroppers? Still not sure how 100k is 10K? Don’t wanna be in same room if he’s using 10K bleeders across HV cap bank.
543, Henry did just that on a 3kd amplifier with a 3cx1,200D7. Wish I still had that plate choke. Lol. Lotsa brown turns on that coil. But still not as good as a plate choke I changed on a 3000 rf deck. Monoband, homebrew amp. Only 4.66uH on plate choke. Only had a 200pf 15kv doorknob for a...
All 2 pills are low drive if you want long life. As to your 2 pill, it should be possible to attenuate the input. ( basically big resistor going to ground to bleed off input drive). Chances are input will have to be retuned.
As Shockwave said, even with a 50ohm resistor to ground. No more than 80-100W pep is needed to drive amp. Usually the bias is fairly low on those as well, so would need even less. I’ve used 100 ohm going to grid and it didn’t need but 15W pep to get full power out of a pair. At $200 a piece...
One thing I will say about biasing HG’s. It’s tricky. 0.5- 0.55v is max bias for HG. At 0.55v they are turned on hard. Full conduction. Actually have to just barely bias so not really turned on, just before they turn on. That should tell you all you need to know about device.
Everything was perfect. Spent an entire day on just Antenna. Cleaned or replaced anything questionable. Terminal, connector or whatever. Took lids off amps and cleaned fans and what ever needed checked. Hard to beat back in the day.
It’s ok, sometimes ppl need to get their feelings hurt. I know what some of The comp style would do on volts. Lol, it was stupid. I can remember being in keydowns running a 1x2 on 19 volts dead keying 950w. Or running a 1x2x6 at a keydown doing 1700 and I’m not talking peak watts. Mind you...
Bob85, I know it can be done. I’ve done similar in past. But I don’t recommend it for everyday use. Some of these guys are telling guys it’s ok to run them like this all the time anytime they are on the radio. I’d rather have headroom and longevity.
Lol, I was watching a video of a 8 transistor amp using the HG 2879C. Guy was driving the snot out of. The 8 pill was pulling 155A. I’m not going to mention output power as for everyday use it’s unrealistic. I’ll leave it at this, the wattmeter does not discriminate.
The chip capacitors work fine if the right one is used for the application. That’s what manufacturers use on FET’s, LDMOS and the like for RF generators and on broadcast modules.
HG are very sensitive to mismatch. If your driving the snot out of them, best to run at lower voltage and keep the SWR near flat. Also worth mentioning, the tuning is more critical. On the Japanese that everyone is use to running. You could be off on the Tune by 20-30pf and they still make good...
As stated in post, when switched to SSB you could here a buzzing noise. If the amp has HG transistors, they do not like to be biased. They run away into oscillation very easily. I have tried it on a few amps. You actually have to bias just a little under where they are being turned on. Which...
