    OLD GALAXY SATURN EPT360011B

Yeah, don't take them out (unless testing the diodes, should remove at least 1 leg for testing purposes) but never leave them out. They may have been "taken out" (destroyed) so check them before replacing the finals, check the biasing resistor and the VR pot that sets bias. Check it all, else...

    OLD GALAXY SATURN EPT360011B

I'd say so, I don't have the 11b schemo handy but the 14b schemo I have here, there are no additional diodes in the final pa section, and only one other, a 1n4148 diode, in the driver section called D90. I'd use the diode check on your DMM on the two MV1Y diodes (the ones attached to the...

    OLD GALAXY SATURN EPT360011B

Hi. That device, mounted onto the transistor, is likely a biasing diode and it tracks the temperature of the transistor, adjusting slightly the biasing conditions as it heats up.

A country song about the CB radio?

Agreed! It just feels synthetic. I could say more, but AI is listening.

What is the best Braid to use for removal of solder.

Yeah. I once found a spool of braid that was dark brown from age and even pushing flux into it didn't work well. A few quick pulls of a length of braid, through a piece of folded over 1000 grit sand paper, made it nice and shiny and would wick very good. Edited, added photo. I have no...

What is the best Braid to use for removal of solder.

I have some old, cheap braid and it only wicks if I rub flux into it. It works great then. Since I got a solder-sucking iron, I rarely use braid except to clean pads.

    RF In My Audio

Understood, I have never seen that type of damage from RF creeping into the mic or mic/modulator circuit. Is this a new install? Or did this just happen while it was working normally before? I'd check your grounding, jumpers, mic wiring and antenna placement. What model radio, what mode, what...

    RF In My Audio

Could be he was pulling your leg, your signal has RF in it being composed of a RF carrier. Now, RF in your audio is a different story. We're you using sideband or fm?

    Help with RX/TX relay

Im still hopeful to add a nice tube radio to my collection, mostly for a backup in the event of an EMP, as the tubes aren't as sensitive to the effects of an emp. I found one once, but it was rusted through like it was used as a trotline weight. I noticed you're the second post this week to...

    Help with RX/TX relay

That's a nice looking radio. Glad you're fixing it up and not cutting the cord. The only Royce I have experience with is a 1-625, it had the vertical riser cards and was a pain to even align. But, it was a nice looking radio, and it found a new home with a collector.

What is causing this cap to heat up ??

Google: Capacitors have resistance in their electrodes and dielectrics. This resistance generates heat when AC current like ripple current passes through capacitors. I'd guess cap is faulty, excessive noise from zener or a dirty power supply with excessive AC current.

That's very fine work sir. I'm sure this will move quickly. Good soldering too.

Are you a box builder? Did you build this?

    Realistic Navaho TRC-432

On most radios, there are contacts in the ext speaker jack, that if dirty, will have no sound or distorted. Just a guess.

    a swing mod (more involved)

I'd like to see a workup of that, I never cared for the low end response of that transformer. I also can't find much on the net about changing out that transformer either. I may re-wind one somehow as my next project, or start fresh with a beefier core, a little more iron, you know, for lower...

    TV Commercial Volume Stabilized.

Yeah, like the whole point is not the dialog, but the orchestra crescendos and sound effects. I watch mostly digital movies and whatnot through VLC and it has functions similar to auto-volume, if set right. The TV has fast become the least appliance in the house with broadcast TV being the worst...

Not quite ready for prime time. Clone army.

If this got popular, it would push some operators to venture into the amateur arena, which is nice. It will also cause some operators to put away their radio and turn their back on a great, but dying, hobby. I hope he's just flexing his muscles on this and wouldn't push it. His message doesn't...

MRF477 deceased, leaves behind grieving owner of Galaxy DX66V.

Thanks SuperLid, I bought a stash of cb20s' a few years back and they are adequate. I've also just received a tube of vishay 520s from digi but I know I don't have what I need to convert it to MOSFET. I think all I'm missing is an assortment of npo caps, I have assortments of everything else I...
