Not quite ready for prime time. Clone army.

That's a really bad idea, and I should know, I used to be the king of bad ideas until this thing appeared. And it's so interestingly bad that it's hard to deny I really want one. That tells me it should probably not exist. Forbid unit 1 to the 38th power guy gets one.

MRF477 deceased, leaves behind grieving owner of Galaxy DX66V.

It worked well for many years, until it didn't. Schematic says the 66v had a 1969 in it. It has a hard wired bias with no control (no VR). Is anyone familiar with the 477 upgrade to this chassis? If so, is it probable that bias values and/or input/output networks were tweaked to accommodate the...

Galaxy DX99V2 low power and hot regulator

Went up to 4v on all gates, that brought the power up where a dual-final should be. I guess I will try current set first, and if power is weak, set by voltage. Thanks for posting that galaxy tech comment.

No name amp with 2 internal adjustments. What are they for?

Yeah, it's a PDF with the pics inside. The pics show 2 variable inductor coils in the bias circuit, one for each pill input. I could be wrong but it looks like a low pass filter of sorts. Maybe has to do with the class they are biased for. Maybe to keep the pills from seeing a spectrally dirty...

I will let you know. Thanks.

    Texas Star Amplifiers

I'd love to have a sweet sixteen. I'm a contractor and the work-load changes like the wind. Should a decent job show itself soon, I will definitely try to get one.

Galaxy DX99V2 low power and hot regulator

Some places say adjust by the voltage, most say current. I noticed that most radios perform exceptional when current biased. However, I have seen some radios, when current bias adjusted, fall flat on power output, way less than expected. Is that what you experienced? If so, did using voltage...

    headphones on a quad 5

Some headphones have a much higher impedance. Still should be alright at low low volumes. Like bc said.

Help using the keypad on my 2995DX

Wait, really? I wouldn't touch any of those, they seem to indicate pirates, bombs, sadness or up and down. I'd stick with the up and down. Anything else looks too sketchy. A bomb? Maybe the jolly Roger indicates you can operate a pirate station? Good grief.

    New President Washington schematics anyone?

I generally won't touch anything without a schematic, especially new cb radios, it seems everything is now integrated, complicated and over-rated. SMD? None for me, thanks. My anxiety is high enough already.

    Uniden 78 XL Philippines

Could be the ext speaker jack isn't making good contact on its pass-thru contacts inside, which pass the audio to the internal speaker if nothing is plugged in. If so, try plugging in and out an ext speaker a few times. Worth a shot, see it often enough and easy fix.

HAM/CB operators ... how old are you?

I was a twenty-something when I got into cb radio, thanks to my father-in-law, who never drove a truck, but was a real rag-chew on the local scene with his imax 2k, push-up pole, coax draped over the roof, going in thru a window. I thought it was strange, cb radios belonged in a truck, not...

Throwing Out A Programming Question ~ TYT 9800

Try opening the software with admin privileges, try right-click and run as administrator. A window may pop up asking to confirm. Worth a shot? Also, in device manager, under ports, verify the device is actually p10.

Connex CX-3300HP Hot Am Mod and Finals

Thank you, Nomad, that's what I've been looking for. I figured forcing a "SSB-like" condition was going to be necessary, I just didn't know how. Never cared for setting MOSFET gates by voltage, there had to be a better way. Thanks again!

Connex CX-3300HP Hot Am Mod and Finals

I'm stuck against a wall, have been for a year or so, regarding the bias adjustment for these, as the 3300hp doesn't have SSB, so am or fm only. I wish someone would detail the procedure for setting idle bias current in an am/fm only model of this board. I haven't found this yet, aside from...

    Cobra 2000 GTL Hi-Fi questions:

For instance, gold finger specifies change c108 to a 1uf to 2.2uf tantalum. C108 is a stock .47uf, so he indicates increasing. I start at the value closest to stock, (the 1uf is closer to .47uf than the 2.2uf) and increase or decrease in the same direction until it sounds right. You likely won't...

    Cobra 2000 GTL Hi-Fi questions:

I'm no expert,I have, but some would say that it can effect tonal qualities. Afaik, yes, I have done this with this mod. That is the basis I use, altering values as I go to taste, but you can very easily muddy it up using the max listed value. I start middle of the road. Check your schematic...

Galaxy Saturn (original) frequencies are out of wack....

Update: they have arrived! I looked them over and the markings match the picture. I replaced both adders in a connex 3300 test radio, and they can add binary bits the same as the 4008s that were in it. So far, so good. Interested in seeing how long they can cut the mustard, but my gut says they...

    People getting over on techs...

Great idea TM86, I keep a log on a file card by serial, and log on the inside of the cover, with a sharpie, of anything I have done inside. Helpful to me or the next tech.

What does everyone think about the Galaxy dx-959

I run a galaxy dx959 in my Silverado, paired with a ranger mic, small RM box and 102" ss whip. I get great reports on am and ssb and talk skip regularly on it while out. Got some drift, but very tolerable on SSB and unnoticeable on am. Opinion: The frequency counter is worthless since it's...
