THanks much for the reply! I have always thought about using an old radio like that but figured that various finals might all be so "different" that ONE radio wouldn't work to test them all. I guess you are proving that this IS a viable way to test!!!!! Thanks.
@danmcclain - there is an entry in the regular section where Claim Jumper is looking for the Robyn radio in CB-89. At the risk of stepping on toes (AGAIN!), I am going to plop it on here.... on the bet that THIS is what he is looking for!!!!
73 to you as always Dan.
That was easy!
I started at the speaker ... traced backwards.
When I got to the headphone jack on the front panel... it looked kind of funny.
I put a finger in to straighten the wires a bit.....
The shell of the headphone jack fell apart and the internal contacts fell out with the wires still...
Just curious.... can you test different part numbers? I mean... does that method work well enough to show whether the "test transistor" works.... even though the original 23 channel radio MAY NOT have used that part? ( I hope I am making sense...)
(just a "story".... not a "cry for help". I am having fun!!!)
Well... since my layoff has led to my retirement I have decided to quit "eyeballing" that Console V way up on the top shelf.

A number of years ago, my "radio loving" son, Tim, snagged a 102" whip ... used ... from a friend of his... with ME IN MIND.
It was mounted on my truck at the time with a ball mount and always worked really well. Actually did a little DX with it and the Grant XL (that got STOLEN out of that...
Expanding this in a slightly different direction... that MAY seem more like fantasy....
everything is heading towards SMD (surface mount).
I have started eyballing these little "conversion boards" on Amazon. They are made with just enough surface mount printed circuit space to mount the...
Has anybody heard from Handy Handy? I used to see his highly informative posts all the time. The last thing I can track from him is in like March or May of this year.
Just checking out of concern.......
I wish I would have been smart enough to subscribe to S9 or some of the other CB related mags while they were out there! I only picked a few up at the stand now and then.......
I have one Royce, a 1-600 that I got to honor my father in law. That is what he used back in "the day". He had that with a Turner JM+2U and a Turner Signal Kicker antenna and, i remember it being a pretty decent performer. I don't have his... but I did buy one just like it... just to have it.
