I have what I am calling a labor of love to do. A few years back a friend of my son Tim (Skip... who owned Outlaws Toy Radio CB Shop) died of a heart attack in his mobile repair van while working on a radio..... parked at home. A short while later... his wife let Tim come over and take...
I am hoping that the attached sectional may be of some help. In that last post I was speaking of "switching the 7.8Mhz that winds up going to the XMIT MIXER".
This drawing is an attempt to give you an idea of what I have stuck in my head.
The BLUE colored path is the Balanced Modulator...
I am actually doing my day job at the moment... but I just had a thought that compelled me to come back here and "blather" some more. None of this may make any sense.... I may be way out of my league here.........
But....
You say that your transmit is off by about 2.8K.
It just hit me that...
I'm dragging up late on this one....
Have you done any "nosing around" in the area of FET7? That is the XMIT Mixer.
Just to verify that the inputs are good, that the voltages present indicate a proper bias condition, AND if the output of that mixer is on frequency??
Just an idea....
I have to wonder what they "MAY BE" doing wrong with them???
Those batteries are used "all over the place" in ham for backup systems AND for portable operations. In all the discussions, videos and talks that I have seen on portable ops with these batteries... I have not heard of one in THAT...
Today's hamfest was good in that I got to fill a hole in my bench!!!
I think this one looked particularly clean and the guy wanted $120. I have seen them a LOT uglier... for a LOT more.... so I just paid him and took it home. No slug... so I still have to find a good 'H' slug somewhere...
I was going to say........
Seems like 4 or 5 years ago ....average 23 channels were $10-$15 US ... and 40 channels were $20 to $25 US. It's CRAZY now.
What you say makes sense....
Good to know.... about the opinion on the bipolar version........
As for the displays... it will all come out in the wash.....
For one... I can always scope the LED driver lines from the chip to the resistor and on to the display segment and see if something THERE indicates a difference in...
Those LEDs are one of the primary things I am researching....
It appears that it is a 3 digit unit (2 of them) but... the question is.....
are they that wildly different from similar displays that you might find at Mouser or elsewhere??? Are they common cathode or common anode? And what...
I'm sure this request happens from time to time... I just never dreamed I would actually OWN one.
Did Magnum not make something like a "service manual" for this thing???
I am aware of the content in CB Tricks but it is not quite complete. I have problems in the displays.. and there are no...
Just dropping a note for those "in the Houston area" or "those who consider themselves within driving range"........
The Greater Houston Hamfest is on this weekend Mar 1 & 2.
Tickets are $10 online before and $15 at the gate.
From the website it looks like the "table count" is pretty...
No sir... I have a couple of "honey do's" in front of me today.....
But I plan to put it on the bench SOON......
first just to see if it lights up and works....
but then run it through a few tests on the bench gear and see what it does....
ALSO have to grab one of my junkbox mics and wire it...
I had a heck of a time trying to get the Imgur links to work like I have always used.
I have gone back now and done it with .png images.... it should be showing....
