    Low range

Always the best way to say thanks to pop in and give an update on how things worked out!! Can’t speak for them, but I bet Andy and Big Kahuna would like to hear back! Good luck with your setup!

Uniden Bearcat 980 ssb Squelch not working

If it’s not working you should try to return it for sure. That said, I don’t personally ever use a squelch on SSB...I don’t think many people do? Not suggesting a band aid, but squelch not functioning would not be a crippling factor for me. Is this in a vehicle? And just out of curiosity...

    Low range

You aren’t checking distance with the squelch cranked up on both ends, are you? How does your buddy sound to you, when he is the same distance?

    10 years farming millet?

    First Ssb radio

Mobile only..my Lincoln II+ seems to show a difference of .0001-.0002 MHz between winter and direct-sunlight-in-smoking-hot-car-in-ncarolina. Importantly, on a day to day basis it’s not floating around whatsoever. That works for me. Off frequency issues seem to me at least 10x more prevalent...

    FT-891...anyone try this mod?

Should I add a grounding strap to the antenna mount.

I think mine is the older model, the 2.0. I bought in the fall of '18. Cool devices. You're well-kitted up for lights!

Should I add a grounding strap to the antenna mount.

I figured you were working with the cones in the bed. Mine does traffic control also....but for tree work. I use a Speed Turtle in the OBD...though I have a bunch of LED modules to install as well. And yeah, an antennas ability to snake through trees is important to me as well. I haven't...

Should I add a grounding strap to the antenna mount.

I understand, but there's now another variable and I like this arrangement a little less

    First Ssb radio

My *first* ssb rig was a SuperStar 3900. Want to talk drifty? I thought ssb was just that way.... On the Lincoln II+ I run the clarifier in the RX only mode, and hardly ever touch it.

Should I add a grounding strap to the antenna mount.

I’d be trying to move the mount to the top crossmember of the headache rack, and then bonding the rack to the pickup bed. I always mount on the roof, but I tend to think you can achieve satisfactory results.

    FT-891...anyone try this mod?

Oh wow - thanks for the quick response. You probably did and I missed it. Yeah, I’m really leaning towards one. Maybe I’ll list some stuff in the classifieds and see what I can come up with. Thanks again, Dan

    FT-891...anyone try this mod?

Did you ever end up trying this mod? I’m half tempted to buy one as a first HF rig...but I like the path of least resistance.

What in the world is going on here? And can anyone tell me what the Internet was like back in 1969?
