    Mobile antenna

Good deal. Then I would stick with it. I don’t think you will realize any improvement changing to the other antenna.

    Mobile antenna

There’s always a number of factors that have to be taken into account with selecting an antenna. If performance was always the only goal, every CBer would have a solid fighting stick on the roof. I generally want the longest antenna I can run, in the highest possible location centered on the...

    Mobile antenna

They're almost identical in spec'd total length; the base load being a couple inches longer. With equal placement on the roof of a vehicle I doubt you would see any performance difference whatsoever. But.....I would take your mounting location into account with your antenna selection.

Mobile Rigs - Static, interference, and thoughts on these issues...

I’m at the point where most streets I drive on generate far more noise than my own pickup. I’m not ready to talk myself out of making an effort to bond my truck - I’ve never done a thorough job and would like to see for myself. But...it’s not a priority either, especially after installing the...

    What was your last meal??

Yesterday we made “chopped cheese” sandwiches...originating in the Bronx. Much like a philly cheesesteak, but made from ground beef seasoned with Adobo...mixed on the grill with cheese, onions, peppers. Then shredded lettuce, fresh tomatoes, mayonnaise and catsup, served on a hoagie roll (grill...

    Anyone fish too?

I always ate sushi with cooked meats.. Then one day a friend convinced me to eat “seared tuna”. It was RAW. Seared hell...the most that tuna ever did was look at a grill. Still cold. And it was frickin’ amazing. That opened the door for me. Now...real sashimi, raw oysters, even raw clams...

    Battery cable crimper

No idea where to put this, so here it is (unless moved). I like tools. A lot. Especially nicely made American ones with a heavy coat of CHROME. I don’t mind spending money. Sometimes though I buy a cheap version for one time use, and to stash away for later. Harbor Freight to the...

    Coronavirus Contest Rules

I was in the garage with the pickup in the driveway...heard you calling Ralph! But no, I didn’t make it out to the truck. You were booming though! Yeah, I see your point. I don’t care about winning anything either, but would be very happy to be a contact for someone that wanted to make an...

    Coronavirus Contest Rules

Anything that may help participation, really. It’s been a great couple months for propagation, but even with the lengthy roster there were no logs submitted for a 2 month contest, at least it appears. Maybe open it up outside WWDX? Perhaps both allowing non-members to participate, and...

    High SWR

@Cutlass327 Related thread I started a while back. Lots of recommendations from folks on devices other than the NanoVNA. https://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/recommend-an-antenna-analyzer.250957/

    High SWR

Ideally, you would connect at the feedpoint. Correct, you won’t need a radio to view SWR and other data, the device does that for you. Unlike a meter, you don’t get just a reading for one frequency...you get a graphic showing SWR (or other data) across an entire range. I use a Nano VNA...

Mobile Rigs - Static, interference, and thoughts on these issues...

I don’t think 1 bead on the coax (single pass) is adequate, at least with my minimal understanding. I went with 5 beads, should be close to 650ohms at 27mhz according to the data I got from Palomar. 4 turns is like having 16 single pass beads.

What cap value for ssb delay

Two RF keyed amps? That’s not more than enough...it’s double more than enough.
  19. 2NC995

What cap value for ssb delay

That was the case with my DX500. I can only guess; not enough drive to put the keying transistor into full saturation. SSB delay cap never saw full voltage...and as soon as modulation stopped the tranisistor turned off and the cap didn’t have enough charge to make a difference...all downhill.
