Thanks for the reply, the antenna offers great performance for what it is. For a portable I could not ask for better.

Oh and for air monitoring have a look at SDR#, this program will be your go to for anything that does not require system tracking (trunked systems)

You should be good to go Dan, run SDRTrunk I can help you get it set up as I have access to the talkgroup files for the US that I can convert for you to import. This would give you the meta data on screen when the services broadcast. I have run SDRTrunk on an Odroid so I know you would be good...

It really depends on what you are doing. For monitoring local services (police, fire,...)and Ham, CB you can get by with an i3 and 4gb of ram. For processing complex signals like satellites and cell data then you are looking at somewhere between an i5 to i7 and 8gb ram min.

Look into the Odroid XU4, slap Linux on the thing and you are good to go. I love the small form factor and they work great for SDR. https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-xu4-special-price/

Guys also don't forget about the ability to watch the GOES satellites as they pass overhead for real-time sat data (images) I could go on and on about the things that you can do with these cheap dongles. Maybe I will start doing video tutorials to demonstrate the potential of these devices. I'll...

Another thing to look into is encryption, as we all know decoding and decrypting are two different things. Software will decode but not decrypt, sure I can write a script for you to decrypt the signal but I hope you have 20 years to stand-by lol Those systems have a key that would literally take...

Most Starcom systems that I have run across are P25-2, SDRTRUNK will decode it. If you have issues with SDRTRUNK decoding the system DSD+ will do it for sure.

Blackcat also look into SDRtrunk (my personal pick) and DSD+ for Winblows or DSD for xnix. SDRTRUNK supports talkgroups and displays all meta data.

I have a lot of experience with these things so if you need anything just ask. If you are looking for cheap but awesome look at rtl-sdr.com, you don't need an upconverter for HF with these as they are capable of direct sampling. They are around 25 to 30 bucks and do 500khz to 1.7ghz. If you want...

Would the admins be interested in adding a RTL-SDR section? I know it has nothing to do with transmitting so to speak but it is very handy when it comes to signal recon. I have a lot of info on this topic and have a lot of how-tos to share.

It is a total of 102" with the whip on top, I put it on a 6' collapsible stand which is working out really well, the legs extend out pretty far which creates a good bit of stability. I go between Louisiana and Texas quite a bit so this setup is perfect for me right now, also it complements the...
