Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

unlocked controls tx+rx. locked is just rx That's where you end up with the issue. TX on one frequency and RX on another when it's locked. The TX ends up being controlled usually by a pot inside the radio.

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

Personally I don't have unlocked clarifiers on CB radios. Some of our locals have them, some do not. We manage. I think if they were all unlocked we would manage better but that's a preference. Not everyone has frequency counters with a stable timebase nor is interested in having one so for...

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

I happen to have the 980SSB expert in my contacts so I called him. (he did not say it and I don't think he would ever say he is the 980 expert :D) He tells me that the WX receiver between versions has a different squelch configuration. Where the old version would sill receive WX broadcasts even...

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Because you can find a variable cap from virtually zero to ~100uF. Or because without even looking at a diagram, if it's a resistor and a cap I am going to hazard a guess that it's just an RC time constant and you can do that with a calculator. No parts changing required. No...

"Plausible" LOL. I have already SEEN it. That makes it REAL.

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

At that price I would be fine buying an Anytone from him, as long as he did not open it or try to upsell any useless tuning and upgrades. Otherwise, I would get it from Amazon.

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

Oh my. I have destroyed this assertions before. I can destroy them in a few sentences... I will not do it because.... it will keep going, and going, and going and I will become STUPIDER by indulging the electronic fantasies of the area 51 scientist with alien knowledge posing as a CB radio...

Looking at getting a compact SSB rig for the compact car.

The PC122 and derivatives were built to a price with some corners cut to save money and decrease their size. Remember to frame this in the context of when this was so you don't apply the standards of today to yesterday. Times were different. Modern equivalents like the 980 and McKinley are far...

Scary Snake Radio "Setting Up" President Lincoln II V3

something tells me that pressure washing a radio would remove a lot more than the wax. Probably the components on the board... and the board itself :)

    Myth or Bust?

I thought about being succinct :)

    Myth or Bust?

Some will call it a mixed bag. Tantalums and ceramic caps are very reliable parts. Replacing them "just to do it" because "something might happen"... Well, the motor in my car might blow up tomorrow. I won't run out and replace it because of what might happen. A lot of those Tantalums are...

    Clarifier Mod Issue

People want the clarifier to be a VFO, which it isn't. What I see a lot is this notion that they need to go up for down at least 15 to get to 19A, etc. They will probably never use it but they want it. The better way is simply to make those changes in the PLL and then you don't need a wide and...

    Clarifier Mod Issue

I think we would need to know how you did the mod. It probably just needs to be realigned.
