Protection diodes Yes the diode can be blown without the Glass being cracked. You need to check it to be sure it is not Shorted. That is the diodes job, to short and blow the Fuse if it gets reverse polarity. If there is no fuse or too large a fuse it burns shorted. So it has to be replaced.

You said your antenna is grounded. I assume you have a ground wire and a ground rod. Try pouring water or a Salt water solution on the ground rod, See if this removes the Noise. If so you probably need a better ground system or need to move the ground rod to better soil. I hope this helps...

There are a few simple mods to bring up the pwr. remove a cap here, add a cap there... Remove C132. (infront of ft104) Add a 330 pf or 660pf cap across C127. (next to L124) That will bump up the pwr a bit. Roger </p>

And of course... the standard Lamp in the HR series radio is a 12v to 14v lamp. sometimes called a "Grain of Wheat lamp'. It fits into the Orange Lamp boot in in the light frame. I have seen exact replacement boots in Green in Yamaha Stereo equipment. Roger </p>

The lincoln has variable AM power, the 2600 does not. (without Modification) The ALC (ssb pwr) control is VR104. Roger </p>
