Ok sounds great on my little President Andy... and on talkback... so I bet this is a distance / local talk thing where i'm just far enough away that i'm losing the echo on the other end but my voice stays intact.
DX tho! Ill have to hop on 16lsb to find out! :LOL:Thanks again.
exactly right @Eldorado828 - Delta makes an in-radio echo baord too.. this one is just external.. it has a Delay and Echo knob (plus roger beep button). Im wondering too if the ALC inside the 980 is clipping it off,.... No internal gain afaik
Any ideas why when I have my talkback on to test my echo I can hear it loud, clear and no problem... but a local contact that I give S5 to cant hear it unless I crank the box all the way up just about? Could I be pinching it off with the mic gain being too high or low? My meter reads consistent...
I thought I was free of my brutal S7 constant hash noise, but look.. its a sunny 70 degree day and its back. DX has to be S9 or over for me to hear it. It will die down later, hopefully conditions will still roll. This is my SDR + LoG antenna.. I can hear the hash on my 980SSB + P99 too :(
I don't know of any logging software that will allow 'out-of-bands' contacts for CB/11m . From what I've read, its something about having a standard database format that interchanges between apps (so you can switch log apps without reentering the whole db), and they are pre-set for the standard...
Thanks for the comebacks 226 and 404. Fading conditions up here in Mass. Noisy too on the AM - got Salt Shaker giving me 9+ with his fatboy - but glad to hear you guys getting through!
Oh yes! Riverman that reminds me . I have also use a Mr. Longarm telescoping pole from HD. It extends to like 24ft or something. Great for supporting an inverted Vee or any other wire antenna where you can get the elements away from the mast. Its aluminum in the top two sections. But a neat pole.
Agree with Home Depot. Prob like 10-15 bucks.. Lowes has similar toprail (maybe even the same brand). They are 10' 6" with one end tapered as to connect one to another. I have one rail holding up my P99 on the side of my house. Love that extra free 6 inches. Every time I move it or put it back...
Just heard about 20 min ago. Recorded a clip from a heavy metal show on Radio Romania (11975 khz). It may be still on if you want to check it out!
clip metal show on Radio Romania Int.
Edit: Using a Nooelec SDR dongle and a loop on the ground about 60ft long
I know this topic has come up before, but was wondering if the lower power turn for the 980 has an effect on its SWR internal meter reading? Even if diagnostics show as "pass". Readings look like this for internal meter inside the radio:
---
980SSB <--> SWR/PEP Meter <--> Antenna : SWR is 1:1...
Band was busy all day it seemed like. On my 980SSB / Homebrew T2L2 I could hear CW and some digital modes way in the background on 24. Europe in the morning, followed by Jamaica and then NM/Texas (up near Boston). Good to hear it open daily for a while after being dead for a while.
My T2LT is still going strong. High winds and all. I was out making sure everything is ready for winter, and was wondering about the space between the antenna and the mast.
My mast is a 23ft extension/collapsible painters pole (Mr. Longarm) that sits on top of a 10ft toprail out on the side of...
So found out my culprit I think. This 980SSB is interesting the more and more you poke at it. The microphone I was using seemed to be not acting nice with the ALC and with lower power on the radio as a whole. I think the noise cancelling effects of the Ranger SRA-198 were dipping the modulation...
So one weird thing is going on strictly on sideband. I get everything hooked up to the dummy load and adjust my ALC everything seems fine. Consistent 80-100 Watts with 130pep on occasion. Hook back up my antenna, check SWR everything is ok, 1.3. do a couple of tests on a few channels. Everything...
Just a quick followup after having it running for a few days. I had to boost the mic gain for locals, and needed to turn the DK from 1.2-1.5 to get enough carrier to test for SWR on the RadioShack meter. It pushes SSB average to 75-80 / 150 pep but that's still within acceptable limits I think...
