Ok so just hooked up my Bearcat 980SSB to the KL203-P.
AM: 1.25W DK / 4W PEP
SSB: 5-8W AVG / 10-12 PEP
Mic Gain : 2 (1-4 setting)
-- amp on --
AM: 15W DK / 85W PEP
SSB: 55-65W AVG / 125-130 PEP
Mic Gain : 2
Amp is just barley warm like a nice warmed up radio. Not hot at all after putting...
I'm definitely getting a hang of the ALC adjustment. It's very subtle. I do consistently get 10 to 12 PEP but average about five to eight. Are those 10 to 12 occasional peaks really going to fry my amp? I know the specs are no good that RM puts out as in their really inflated, but I would say...
I've been trying to turn down my 980ssb using the ALC control (am already set to 1w/4wpep) but it seems to peak when I get loud to 12pep but averages 5-7w. Are you running any mic gain?
I have seen the countless iterations of "no more than 1-1/2 DK", and some "Stock 12W SSB is fine - no more than 15 PEP" etc.. but is there a minimum power needed to open the relays, especially for SSB? Say modulation from the radio needs to be at least 1W or something? I find sometimes the...
So some noise, as predicted by the power company, has gone down since they fixed some pole/line work, but I still get a solid S3-5 (AM) with some pulsing. I have been poking around online and the closest thing to it I can find was an example of an electric blanket. Its definitely in one...
Had fast dx around 7pm EST for about 10-15mins. Not the usual suspects either I usually get (NM, TX etc..), one station LOUD from the Caribbean and a ton of Spanish language stations. Then poof gone.
Speaking of quiet... the band seemed way more open a few weeks ago. BUT I do get this unpredictable noise that sounds like wind blowing into a microphone. I can see it all the way up towards 30mhz too on the SDR waterfall. It tends to move around sometimes fast and sporadic. What the heck is...
I've been using a EF sleeve dipole (T2LT) for a bit now. I had an inverted Vee antenna hanging up over my shed for a few months and made great DX contacts, but locals get cross-polarized since they are vertical usually.
I made my T2LT out RG58 coax. Gotta measure out for CB/11M (around 103.2"...
Hi all. quick update.
We moved the A99 and mast away from the house and away from the neighbors house. After doing some location testing, the loud sound is coming from the next door neighbors house. the noise would get louder and louder the closer the antenna got to their property.
Since we...
I too just got myself a KL203P.. I have also a KL60. Most folks I have watched or read about with the 203 say they put no more that 2w deadkey in, and get about ~40W(ish) deadkey with the amp on.
In my case, on my Cobra 29 WX NW ST (from the 90s) the deadkey is 1.5w in and about 55-60W out...
I just made a second one of these antennas. Heard them called T2LT, sleeve dipole etc.. The first one was more... scrappy.. couldn't get the SWR nailed down..
This second one I just made out of RG58 I get a 1:1 match across the CB band. I used a quart size paint can to wind 5 turns for the...
Troubleman 2 was out today. Knocked on my door. First one was just a visual inspection for safety I guess.
Said my poles in front of my house were not noisy, and was going to drive around behind my house and around side streets. Also said he was going to come back in a few days when the sun is...
a PERFECT pirate radio band... I have seen them before live. They build a bunch of DIY gear/instruments/experiments that they bring on tour. They also love classic scifi flicks (and project them during the show) so it stands to reason they did the theme to MST3K which makes total sense.
Waiting on the power company now to get me in to the mix for the techs to come out. But its really constant now.. S9+ and look at my waterfall on my SDR! This a totally separate antenna (its a long horizontal wire SWL antenna about 40ft) but also in my back yard. AM SDR demod sounds the same as...
