Congratulations of passing. I was into CB for many years and then one day finally decided to get my license for ham radio. I went on to eventually get my Extra. My favorite part of the hobby is antenna building. Oh and check out POTA.
Final update on this project. The administrator came by to look at the antenna and his take on it was he can't see it. He is pretty happy with the job we've done. Cecil did acquire a radio. It is a Icom IC718. He has made many contacts with this setup. He now wants to get his general...
I'd have to agree. Moxon's just seem to naturally go to 50 ohms with a bonus of closing the back door receive and transmit pretty hard at resonance. The gain is nice and the large front lobe makes aiming pretty easy.
Went out to do a POTA. Hadn't started calling CQ yet. I was just dialing around and seeing what signals I could hear and answered a bunch of them. One was a Japan station. I wasn't sure if he could hear me but I answered his CQ. He heard me. I was pretty happy to work JL8lPZO and put him...
In my shack on or near the bench and hooked up to an antenna are 4 radios.
IC-7300 For HF and 6 meters
Kenwood TM-733 dual band for 2 meters and 70 cm
Kenwood TM-621A for 1.25 Meters
President McKinley for 11 meter monitoring.
There are other radios but they are just being stored in the shack.
I removed the top this afternoon. Just on the two boards at the very top was just over 50 electrolytic capacitors. Reading the specs was a challenge indeed. Some were so close to neighboring parts and some were pretty darn small. I can't find any source of cap kits. I can find caps but...
Original poster here. I have done a search and it seems this radio has little information online about how to do what I am wanting to accomplish. What I have found is a scanned circuit board layout. I can see the parts layout. I so far have not found a parts list. So it would be a matter of...
I bought this radio just after getting my general license. I used it awhile and had a good time with it. I noticed that the frequency readout was off a few kHz but didn't worry about it to much. I bought another radio to get into FT-8. I used that one awhile and then bought a ICOM IC-7100...
The antenna is up. Photo here is the feed point at about 15 feet hight. Two radials droop down to about 8 feet high on the ends. SWR was at 1.12:1 at 28.4. SWR at 28.000 was at 1.5:1. This spring when the tree blossoms with new leaves the antenna will become invisible. He has his eye on...
I called my friend in the home today to see how he is doing. I wanted to inform him of my build progress. He has obtained permission to put the antenna up which will make things so much simpler for me while installing it. I let him know that I need to have warmer days before I want to do the...
An update.
First of all thank you for the donation offers. I will get in touch with the person and see what he would like to do? There is a Ham swap meet coming up where he is planning to go. Anyway I will let him know.
I have built the antenna. It is very simple. A BNC to wire connector...
We looked at this option. The layout of the building would have been very good to install one but he did nix the idea. He leaned to getting a really stealth vertical up in the tree outside his window.
I have built a quarter wave antenna that I will hang from the tree just outside his room. I went over to visit him today and saw his set up. He has a window bulkhead that has coax pass through. One is used for his 2 meter antenna which is just outside his room. It is mounted on a mast 2 feet...
A ham in a home with Technician license has been able to get permission to install his 2 meter antenna on the building. I have not seen his station yet so I don't know the details yet. I will be going over this week to visit with him and see what could be done to add 10 meters to his station...
A lot of POTA activators have learned that you don't hunt from the park during a contest. Just answer the CQ contest calls. That is how I treated the ARRL 10 meter contest. I was not contesting but just answering the CQ contest calls and to give them the point and then logged my contacts with...
Should our cell phone infrastructure and the web be compromised people will be looking for ways to contact friends and family. That hated guy in various HOAs throughout Americawill be sought out. Not to tell him to take down his ugly antennas but for the ability to contact others and...
