I don't do contest myself but I do like to tune them in and listen. I get to check out conditions. I have answered a few contest callers that are nice and clear to pick up. Logged Grand Cayman Islands yesterday. Also logged Hawaii. Boise Idaho with Yeasu 450D at 100 watts with a home-brew...
Yeah I really like the Turner +3 I have. It is connected up to my Bearcat 980. Even when running stock power I can do some pretty good DX work. If I turn on my amp I can do some really nice DX. Well when mother nature lets me anyway. The Turner beats the pants off of my stock mic.
I turned on my radio and heard some odd chatter on 19 that didn't sound local. Turned to 38L and called out. I got some response out of S. Cal and Arizona. Wish it could happen more often. Maybe as this new sunspot cycle progresses that will happen.
Sorry it took so long Riverman. I have had some problems getting onto this site. My Safari web browser finally didn't tell me it was dangerous to do so today. Anyway I took the photo you requested. The leaves will be on soon and the antenna will disappear. I could have put it on the roof...
In Boise Id. Raised my 11 meter DIY quarterwave vertical antenna up another 5 feet today. Starduster type with two radials. Went in to check SWR with my MFJ analyzer. Liked what I saw. Hooked it up to my Bearcat 980. Heard some spanish chatter on AM 25. Disappeared within 10 min...
I watched Forbidden Planet recently on Netflix. Can’t bring myself to watch the new, updated Lost In Space series.
Hanging onto the past? You bet! :D
I have watched it. You are missing out by not doing so. Very good story and production.
I do satellite installs. I have done some satellite internet installs. The dish does transmit. No phone line needed. The instructions are very clear about not putting my head or hands between the dish and the feed assembly. RF power not healthy at that level apparently. I have no question...
I know what you mean. My wife inherited some money from a real close friend of hers that had been murdered. My wife took the money and used it to install a pool. The pool was to remind her of her friend. I tried to talk her out of it but that didn't fly with my wife. I became the pool boy...
Homer you made me laugh with this. I dipped my finger in some beer one day to try it out. Stuck my finger in my mouth and could not believe how awful beer tasted. I guess some of us just aren't made to be able to drink the stuff. Same goes with other alcohol drinks for me. NOPE not gonna...
For me it is the new solar panels goin in near my home. What a racket those things make if they have cheap filtering systems. Anyway I get you desire to jump the fence and smash it. The noise we suffer with in and near our homes these days has been making going out and doing HF work in the...
I use a Turner Plus3 with my Bearcat 980. Mic gain on 980 is at 3. Gain selection in the 980 menu is 1,2,3,4. I use 3. My Turner is put at the 9 O'clock position. I get good audio reports.
Got my 980 hooked up a few days ago. Had some great local chats today. I don't seem to hear the skip you guys in the east mention. I am guessing it has a lot to do with our less population out this direction. Not so many people and even less with radios.
I think truckers rolling through Boise avoid 19. Local radio users tend to hang out on that channel. I was told in case a trucker asks for a road or weather report. Yet these I have heard noise toys been used on the channel and other stuff that would basically drive truckers bonkers. One guy...
I went into a Jalopy Jungle to harvest some parts for my 97 Ford F150. Found a floor flange setup for radio in a truck. It came home with me. Just have to get it into my truck now. Waiting for warmer days.
Another problem faced in Boise is the RF noise that just makes receive so difficult. Not just for CB but for other HF bands. CFL and LED lights and the popularity of solar panels with thier switching power supplies just kill a lot of radio here. Often get a S5 or S7 in just noise. Oh well.
