Maybe I'm missing it in the manual. Is there a Function for Repeater Reverse? To Monitor for direct signal reception on a Repeater Input? Not seeing that on my 9800 yet.
What's crazier is that they're coming with those little 3.5" mini disks ..... like who has a minidisk drive on their desk? Why they couldn't supply a full sized disk ..... who knows? Cheapness?
Thanks Blackcat. I am in a rural area also and never get any intermod from anything. I only went with the 9800 as they were the same price as the dual band 7900.
I did a search and didn't see any recent posts on this one so I thought I'd start a fresh one. By choice I'd gone all my ham life since 1993 having only 2 meters as a base or mobile. I figured I'd have all the talking I wanted to do on 2M and dual band radios cost twice as much and the antennas...
Not only is 9 dead but almost all the other ones in my area are too. And I'm out in the country ..... prime CB territory. Sad to see it failing like this. We had a robust group talking through the 2010's but especially since 2020 the operators are dropping like flies. Older guys dying. People...
Gonna drop this here on page 9 as a Recap and ain't nobody got time to re-read all this.
The OP asks about "Best Performance"
Now that depends on what your definition of {performance} is. What operational parameter is most important to your preferred style of operating?
Is Local Talking most...
Although not up at the moment, I have basically the same Viper without the little radials at the bottom. A 19 footer. Works great - no complaints. A few years ago was like $72 and free ship from England off of eBay. Came Fedex in like 3 days ..... incredible.
Nice that it added the Air Band, which isn't important to everyone. I'm still using an H6 that does 10 watts (since has been replaced by the H8) This H3 maxes at 5w.
I've seen that now. Using the same model number for both the 1600 and 2200. There are a pair of 2200's on Amazon for like $47 .... heh heh more than the radio cost.
By "side" of a trailer do you mean most of it actually being against the side rather than mounted on the Top and on one of the sides? That probably won't work. Vertical antennas mounted directly next to nearby objects causes significant reflections most times also resulting in a high SWR...
I'm no auto expert here and today's modern computer controlling may have an effect as mentioned above - you'll have to do the research on your engine - but back in the day at least most engines had a separate Voltage Regulator working alongside the alternator and they were 14V. A radio buddy...
Simply sounds like it was repeatedly overdriven .... perhaps also into a little SWR.
Getting 900W on SSB is way too much for 4 of those pills. Were those DOSY watts? ...... nevertheless he saw smoke didn't he?
.
The 2879 Clones are 100W pills. Therefore SAFE Max out is 400watts on any mode.
